Original Pub Style harkens back to the very first brews Gritty's produced at our Portland Brew Pub back in 1988. "We wanted to make a beer that captures what made people fall in love with craft brewing in the first place; a fresh, classic pale ale with plenty of hop character." says Brewmaster Ed Stebbins. "This is the kind of beer that really started the whole Maine brewing revolution."
Original Pub Style is a light copper-colored medium-bodied with a nice dry bite at the finish. A subtle combination of Cascade and Willamette hops give this ale a fine floral aroma and a slightly fruity aftertaste. The taste captures the freshness of a hand-crafted brew pub ale that goes right from the conditioning tank to your glass! Original Pub Style is a year-round release available in six and twelve packs all over the great state of Maine, and on draft at Gritty's Portland and Freeport brew pubs.

Draught @ the pub. Clear golden with almost no head, faint malt aroma, medium carbonation, lightly bitter malty taste, thin body, medium finish. Nothing special.

Pours a light amber from a tap. Rather light pale malt aroma, somewhat insipid, sweet. Meh.

On tap at the brewpub. A clear, dark golden beer topped by a small off-white head. The aroma is a bit cellar-ish, bready and malty, with a fruity touch. Medium body, very soft and quite dry. Decent bitterness in the mouth, with bread and fruityness. Short finish. Quite boring, too British. 150609

Bottle from Epsom Circle Market. Aroma is strong initially of sparkling wine, then yields to bready malt. Appearance is beautiful clear sparkling gold with thick creamy white head with good retention and light but attractive lacing. Taste is straight up the middle medium to heavy sweet malt--a little strong, even for my taste. Palate is extremely thin, light body with surprisingly little carbonation given the amount of sparkling. Abrupt dry finish. Overall, this is a very attractive looking beer that has a fairly strong aroma without complexity, is overly sweet and has nothing to offer the palate. Not even really a great session beer.

Part of their mixed pack on my trip to Maine. Pours a very slight hazy golden colour with a frothy warm cap and decent foamy-creamy lace. Diacetyl aromas with butter and butterscotch. Milder caramel malt taste with hints of grains in the finish and light hops. Some sweetness, some bitterness, but nothing really good as a little too rich for a good pale ale.

Keg at the Portland branch. Pours clear gold with a fine, creamy white head. Grainy malt nose, some leaves, orange rind. Light to ,Edith sweet flavor, mild bitter pine needles, some leaves, a bit of ripening orange. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with very faint citrus, leaves, pine. Again, a very basic beer.
