Aged in bourbon barrels for 8 months, Bourbon Barrel Aged Batch 9,000 Ale takes the sweet caramel, molasses and dried fruit aromas of its predecessor and layers on oak, vanilla and bourbon notes. The barrel contribution is definitely present, but doesn’t try to overwhelm the underlying beer.
The goal is to showcase the beer, not the bourbon, with the result being an exceptionally smooth beer with complexity and depth that defies easy classification as an Imperial Stout or Barleywine or otherwise.

75cl bottle courtesy of and shared with Sarro. Cheers Kyle! Bottle # 460/1502, batch 11580.

Bottle thanks to Tom. Pours a very dark brown with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is strong chocolate, dark fruit, wood. Thick mouthfeel, chocolate, roast, dark fruit, light booze, really enjoyed this one.

Bottle shared. Pours dark brown with no head. Aroma of bourbon qualities upfront, vanilla and boozy woody barrel, molasses, chocolate, leather, tobacco, fudge and light soy. Flavor is heavy sweet and light bitter. Warming alcohol in the finish. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle at RBWG 2014, thanks! Pours a near clear dark brown with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice bourbon and dark grain combination with light roast and bitter chocolate backing. Flavor has bourbon up front with a bit of dark grains and roast growing and supported by dark chocolate.

Bottle @ Armin’s house, courtesy of DalzAle. Thanks! Pours a deep reddish brown appearance with a tiny brown head. Big caramel, toffee, whiskey, vanilla aroma. Really rich gooey, dark chocolate, thick toffee, brown sugar, big whiskey flavor. Tasty but big.

Autumn Brew Review, 2013. Good, for a bourbon aged beer which compliments rather than overwhelms the flavor of this fine imperial stout. Some vanilla, heavily roasted grain and a thick, syrup-like palate. Very low carbonation.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Opaque dark brown - black beer. Short lived tan head. Palate is soft and viscous. Semi dry with fine carbonation. Rich dark chocolate and malt. Trace of coffee. Smooth bourbon. Light vanilla oak. Bourbon spice and mellow dark fruits. Smooth finish. Nice but could possibly do with a little morr time.
