Bloody ‘Ell – We have never brewed a straight IPA at Beavertown, why change the habit of a lifetime! Here we take a stripped back IPA malt bill and highly hop it with the tropics of Amarillo and Citra and pile head on with kilos of Blood Orange zest and juice late in the boil, bringing you a smack of citrus and hints of warm orange aromas. One of our favourite and most popular seasonal brews. We will be canning Bloody ‘Ell too from February until the bloody oranges run dry!

33 cl bottle @ Timo A
Aroma is rather nice with gooseberry bush, grapefruit and blood orange jaffa(!) Flavour is a bit messy and musty with grapefruit, some gooseberry bush and hints of caramel. Gooseberry bush notes get stronger towards the finish. Aroma was nice but flavour is a bit disappointing.

330ml bottle. Cloudy golden colour with small, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Excellent fruity hop aroma, lots of blood orange, grapefruit, some resin. Taste is fruity, resinous and bitter hoppy, grapefruit, blood orange, orange, tangerine, sweaty resinous notes, minimally sweet fruity, not so much caramel malty basis; soft palate, lasting, bitter, fruity finish. Superb stuff.

Keg @ Stockbridge Tap, Edinburgh [090713]
Orange, white haze, thin white head, slight lacing
Aroma - oranges, orange juice, sweet fruity juicy malt, lots of orange
Taste of bitter citrus orange, big time orange juice, bitter orange zest, orange sherbert, sweet fruity malt background, not that complex but just a great tasting ipa, lots of citrus hops, alcohol well hidden, yum yum
Palate - soft carb, light to medium body. Palate - strong citrus sherberty palate, very zesty. Finish as main flavour, very fruity ornage, strong bitter zest linger
Overall - A great ipa, the orange just works so well in this

Bottle at home in London - sourced from City Beverage Co. Pours cloudy orange-gold with a moderate, creamy white head. The nose gives off a lot of pine, some ripening tropical fruits, a bit of dank citrus. Medium to big sweet flavor with lots of juicy, ripe citrus fruits, some sticky pine, pectin, a decent pale malt backdrop. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Well and resinous to finish with mild warmth, plenty more ripe citrus, nips of booze-soaked orange and tangerine, pale malt sugars, more pectin, some grapefruit pith. A pretty solid IPA overall. I wouldn’t say it’s any more citrusy than a well-made IPA without explicitly-added fruit, but it is a damn fine IPA.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; hazy amber pour with soapy white head, tropical fruit hop aroma, um-bongo like taste loads of tropical fruit action, grapefruit and passion fruit and dare I say it orange. Quality IPA.
