3 week old pint can A: Clear molasses colored pour with 1/2 of tan foam. Good retention down to a thick lace ring. S: Light coffee and sweet chocolate. Also faint burnt toast, wood and toffee. T: Bitter coffee notes mingle with herbal hops then caramel and a smoky whiff of dry toast. No dark fruit to speak of though. M: Fairly light and clean with drying carbonation spritz but light stickiness. O: Tasty as it is tasteful, a very approachable dark rauch type beer.

On tap at Jack's Abby, pours a deep dark brown with a reddish tinge and a small beige head. Aroma brings out light smoke, with just a faint touch of peat. Flavour follows accordingly, with pleasant peaty smoke, German lager yeast sweetness and a touch of bready caramel. Nicely balanced with plenty of depth. Really good.

Draft at Mooney’s. Dark brown, small skin of head.Aroma is campfire and ashtray, some minor sweet malt. Taste brings in some chocolate, more sweetness, the smoke fades to the background. A nice porter with some smoky accents.
