On tap at The Ginger Man, NYC. A dark brown beer with a dense, finger-thick off-white head. The aroma is roasted and lightly nutty in the back, with lots of vanilla. Some chocolate too. There’s a nice bitterness in the flavor, some coffee and chocolate, even some roasted malts, and lots of vanilla that lasts forever. It’s medium to full-bodied and nicely carbonated. Overall, sure it’s nice, but there’s way too much vanilla going on. 150624

22 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 10/15/2014. Pours crystal clear very dark brown color with a 2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big vanilla, caramel, toffee, milk chocolate, creamed coffee, toast, and light herbal. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and vanilla notes; with good strength. Taste of vanilla, caramel, toffee, milk chocolate, creamed coffee, toast, and light herbal. Slight herbal/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of vanilla, caramel, toffee, milk chocolate, creamed coffee, toast, and light herbal on the finish for a good bit. Good complexity and solid robustness of dark/roasted malt and vanilla flavors; with a great malt/vanilla balance and minimal cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and fairly creamy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good vanilla porter. All around good complexity and solid robustness of dark/roasted malt and vanilla flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

From bottle to glass. Moderate soft vanilla and high roast. Very dark brown and clear with a beige head. Moderate webbing. Flavor is overt roast and coffee with a slight artificial vanilla backing. Astringent.

Bomber from Total Wine West Richmond, VA. Pours a clear dark reddish brown color with a large frothy brown head. Decent head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, vanilla, chocolate and a faint hop finish. The taste is basically melted ice cream... chocolate and vanilla with a finish of roasted malts and faint hops. Medium bodied, slight bitterness, average carbonation. Not bad, but a bomber’s worth seems like it might be a bit much.

Bottle brought back from SoCal trip. Clear dark brown with a full lasting tan head. Slightly sweet woody roasted aroma with some vanilla. Pretty mild. Nice bold roasted flavor with some coffee and a bit of ash and fairly barrel aged tasting for a non BA beer. Decent bitterness at the end and a slight metallic note. Fairly thin dry pallate and appropriately soft carbonation. Don’t pick up much Vanilla. Decent all around porter.
