The strikingly authentic English-style pale ale is brewed with all-English malts and a pound-and-a-half of Pacific Northwest hops per barrel. It is medium-bodied, crisp and well-balanced with a flavor profile featuring subtle notes of caramel, toffee and toasted malt, counterbalanced by the ideal level of hop bitterness. The delicate herbal hop finish is produced by Goldings whole leaf hops.

Poured into an English pint glass, the appearance was a burnt dark copper color with a thin foamy finger’s worth of head. Slowly fell off to leave some stringy lace.
The aroma had some herbal to floral hop qualities flowing into a light biscuit-like malt base. Light toast and leather play with the caramel malt base.
The flavor was moderately sweet with a sturdy leafy dryness to slide into the aftertaste and cling in the finish.
The feel was almost medium bodied but sat just a tad underneath. Some carbonation was felt but nothing to distract from the style. ABV felt appropriate.
Overall, I’d say pretty good English pale ale that I could have again but also probably would be better on cask and would most likely even be better with some fish n’ chips.

Cask @ Albion. Hazy dark amber with large foamy beige head, lavender aroma, low carbonation, faintly sweet cookie like taste with lavender flavor, long finish with lavender aftertaste. Quite flavorful but smooth.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 3/23/2014. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep orange/copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange, apple, floral, grass, pine, caramel, toast, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/grassy hops and moderate malt sweetness; with solid strength. Taste of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange, apple, floral, grass, pine, caramel, toast, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of earthy pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange, apple, floral, grass, pine, caramel, toast, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness and solid complexity of citrus/earthy hops, bready malt, and light yeast ester flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and some slight cloying bitterness after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly prickly/sticky mouthfeel that is ok. Alcohol is well hidden with no warming present after the finish. Overall this was a very solid English pale ale. Good balance and solid complexity of citrus/earthy hops, bready malt, and light yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Big, soap-sudsy, persistent head. Not bad, but nothing to make it stand out.

12oz bottle. Slightly hazy copper orange. Toasty aroma, some buttery hops. Relatively true to style, drinkable, with an odd fishy seawater taste. Straightforward, probably a little faded with age. Herbal, non tangy lemon-lime flavors. Medium bodied. Unremarkable beer.

On tap. Pours golden amber with a white head. It has a light sweet biscuit aroma. Flavor has lightly sweet butterscotch and biscuit, some light hop bitterness. It’s an okay beer.

Purchased at In Fine Spirits in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on a Tuesday night in the shower after a treadmill run. This stuff ain’t bad. Aroma actually reminded me a bit of Bell’s Hopslam, albeit a more subdued version, the mixture of citrus hops and sweetness has a honey-like quality to it, not sure if they use honey but I kinda get that from it. Appearance a somewhat clear amber with almost no head. Taste is pretty nice, good crisp finish with a malt backing and some floral hops in the mix. Not something I’d seek out but it’s not bad.
