Bottle, Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Deep dark brown pour with a small tan head. Aroma had notes of dark fruits, barrel, chocolate and vinegar. Similar traits were present flavour wise which had some sourness alongside some brown sugar ,booze and spice. Dried out towards the finish. A bit odd and far from my favourite Struise offering but not without some charm.

Bottle shared at Garvie’s. Pours clear brown with a creamy, tan head. The nose holds tangy dark fruits, some metal, wood. Light to medium sweet flavor with dried berries, mild acetic bite, orange rind, leather. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Dry and tart on the finish with some tannic notes, dried and leathery berries, some herbs, wood. Lingering warmth. Nice.

Like their Aardmonnik, the Struise Brewers tackle the oud bruin style in their own creative way with this: partially brewed with rye and aged on burgundy and Wild Turkey barrels... It refers to the first World War, the beginning of which is commemorated this year. Pale beige, thinnish, unstable head, dark burgundy colour, hazy. Complex aroma of plums, figs, grapes, wood, yoghurt, sherry, chocolate with just a hint of bourbon. Complex taste profile, candied fruits, citrus touch, lactic acid, strongish carbo at first but calming down as you go further into the beer, smooth caramelly and nutty malt backbone, lightly toasted, long finish, woody with subtle yet noticeable bourbon (the burgundy is far less obvious), late and subtle leafy hop bitterness, more ’deep’, long and earthy than usual for ’oud bruin’ and some warming, sherry-like alcohol; in all, an interesting and complex brew once again, which apparently ages formidably (had a 4 year old bottle last week and apart from strong gushing, it did not show any flaws, so I’d recommend cellaring - but be cautious when opening it).

Shared bottle at Mi2 15.09.14. Almost black. Foamy beige head. Sour and complex aroma, with fine red wine. High carbonation. Taste is sour, but not as complex as aroma.

Bottle shared at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours dark amber with a good head. Well balanced between sourness and sweetness. Refreshing.

Bottle at Appellation. Pours murky brown, nose is tart, fruity, oaky, taste is dry sour, light vanilla and toffee.
