Made for the abbey of Keizersberg in Leuven since 1994 and sold there in the Liturgisch Centrum Castrum. Recognized as an 'authentic abbey beer' since 1999 but almost certainly an alias of Bornem Tripel.

On tap @Birrifugio Trastevere (Rome). Dorata, mediamente torbida, schiuma bianca media, discretamente persistente. Al naso note di lievito, spezie, coriandolo, banana, frutta gialla, etilico. In bocca è dolce all'attacco, calda, corposa, etilica, chiusura amara leggera. Corpo pieno, carbonazione leggera. Non bilanciatissima, si fa fatica a finirla.

Hazy medium golden colour, good but quickly collapsing frothy white head, patchy lacing. Sweet nose, aroma sweet malt, grain, yeast, honey, pear, white grapes, banana, coriander. Taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, yeast, honey, banana, ripe fruit, alcohol. At first prickly on the tongue followed by creamy mouthfeel, medium body, soft carbonation, sweetbitter aftertaste, light metallic, alcohol and metallic, sugary notes, nothing special, okay.

Poor head. Aroma has hops and mustard. Hopbitter, yeasty taste with some citrus and lots of alcohol. Well laced and a dry mouthfeel. A bit onedimensional beer, but very drinkable.

29 April 2019. At Zeiven Uke, Leuven - shared with Anke! Pours clear golden with a huge, slowly collapsing, foamy, white head; lots of lacing. Aroma of yeast, old apple sauce, dried banana & apricot, breadcrust, clove, faint cabbage. Taste is light to medium fruity sweet, estery banana & apple peel, topped with white sugar, some (retronasal) cabbage again, clove-like phenols next to bitter grass & pepper, all the while yeasty. Dry, grassy hoppy finish, spicy-phenolic still, more yeast, and some warming, not too subtle, jenever-like alcohol. Medium body, thinnish oily texture, lively carbonation. Not a very refined Tripel but there are other, more obnoxious examples out there, so it’s decent enough for a sunny day in spring.
