A solid off-white head with good retention. Body is an appealing rich caramel colour. The nose features a big roasted caramel malt presence with a solid touch of resin and fruity hops. Heres hoping that this is the recipe the BDT settles on for the long term. A fresh caramel malt lead on the taste profile. Toffee, light fruity hops, berries and apricots round out a diverse but well blended profile for a sub 6% ale. Dense and rich.

On tap at the brewpub.
Typical Quebec style amber. Big on the caramel malts, and little on hop aroma. You can tell the. Hops are there, because there is quite a bitterness in the finish, but aromaticaly, they are nowhere to be found. The caramel malts arnt too obtrusive, or cloying, just a nice backbone without turning off your palate. A decent amber, but nothing special.

Taster at the brewpub. Slightly cloudy, amber colored. AROMA- pale plums, berries, toasted, bread crusts, earthy. FLAVOR- slightly sweet, lightly bitter, strawberry, cherry, hawthorn, earthy, toasted. Medium bodied. Tasty.

Keg at Brasseur du Temps (as L’Allumante), Gatineau. Hazy copper colour, mid sized head. Toasty fruity nose. Mid sweet with medium body and well rounded mouthfeel. Hazelnuts and toast, notes of butter. Mid bitter finish. Harmonious.

Single bottle from my local Métro store. Pours a hazy deep amber colour with a warm-beige frothy head that has decent retention and creamy lace. Nutty aromas with amber malts, and lots of caramel ones giving some maple syrup notes. The taste is also nutty (hazelnuts) in the finish, but starts off with hints of apples, mild hops and even a little wood. Surprisingly good with not much sweetness in the mouth that is found in the nose. I like it !

Une bonne rousse de tous les jours, avec quelques similitudes la reliant à certaines bières plutôt brunes... Je sens le caramel amère et les grains grillés alors qu’en bouche, les malts prennent le dessus avec une finale résineuse. Bien faite!

Draught @ the brewpub (4 o’clock). Pours slightly hazy amber with small off-white head. Clear aroma of malt, with notes of caramel and hops and some fruity touches. Bitterish, hoppy flavour, complemented by sweet notes if malt, caramel and fruit and touches of nuts and barrel. Bitter afterttaste with estery notes. Decent.

L’Allumante is a 5.5% red ale that looked great with a very clear amber color and fantastic lacing. The nose was bitter caramel malts. The flavor was malty with a light bitterness giving it a crisp clean taste. A classic red.

Something is a little off here. Has an off balance of honey and wooden astringency. Like a substandard altbier with honey. Consistency a little syrupy. Pours red clear. Finishes with light bitterness. Tap at brewpub.
