Cask-conditioned at a JDW (Leicester Square), 27/3/08. Pale gold with a very slight, white head. Slightly sweet malt aroma with a touch of faded hops. Mouth feel was a bit limp and watery, with more sweet flavours and a short dry finish. Dull all round.

Biggish coarse white head that’s creamy on top with larger bubbles. Slightly hazy orange body with carbonation. Light acidic perfumy aroma with notes of yeast and tea. Taste is deep, bitter and lightly malty and yeasty. Bitter metallic tea aftertaste. Body is a bit thin with a dusty mouthfeel. Spicy, wooden notes. A nice bitter, but nothing too remarkable. (0.5l bottle.)

500 ml brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. This is an "organic" beer. Clear golden colour, large and lingering head. Moderate but okay aromatic hops with notes of honey. Flavor is instantly "dusty" hops (First Gold and Hallertau), then some hints of honey and caramel, while a distinct but not overdone hoppy bitterness carries you through, and stays with you in the aftertaste. Not bad, but I am not convinced that Hallertau is the best hop for a golden ale.

Bottled. Clear, golden, sparkling beer with a decent white head. Malty and sweet aroma with nice hopping. The flavor starts off with hops, then there’s a balancing maltyness with caramel. Medium body. The finish acts a bit like the flavor, with a hoppy start, and the malt coming after a while. Quite nice. (060712)
