It’s hard being the sequel, unless you wrote the original story. Inspired by the continual hopping process we invented with 90 Minute IPA, 60 Minute builds on that one-of-a-kind process and flavor, crafting a solid gold hit that’s found its own identity.
Brewed using a boatload of intense Northwest hops, we boil this continually hopped IPA for a full 60 minutes, adding more than 60 hop additions continuously to create a bold and timeless flavor. Continually hopped to deliver a pungently, citrusy, grassy hop flavor without being crushingly bitter, 60 Minute IPA is a surprisingly sessionable IPA for the craft enthusiast.

The Greatest Invention You’ll Ever Taste
It was back in the mid-90s when we started messing around with extreme versions of super hoppy IPAs. We would use foolhardy amounts of hops, creating a really pronounced bitterness that seemed out of place.
After an ‘aha!’ moment while watching a cooking show on TV, Dogfish Head founder & CEO Sam Calagione tracked down one of those old school vibrating football games to help feed the beer a continual stream of hop pellets. Boom! Continual hopping was born!
You see, traditionally brewers make two hop additions - one big dose early in the boil for flavor, and another bunch at the end for aroma. But thanks to a rigged up football-machine-turned-continual-hopper and our addition of equal increments throughout the entire boil, Sam was able to create an outrageously hoppy IPA, without being crushingly bitter.
Now all these years later, and after much more sophisticated second, third and fourth generation contraptions have taken over our continual hopping process, the theory and execution are essentially unchanged.
In 2019 we celebrate the 20th anniversary of continual hopping and the really special experience that comes with it. Who knew that a thrift store game and a random cooking show would put us on a path to creating ‘the greatest invention you’ll ever taste.’

Pours dark amber with a white head. Aroma of pine and hops. Tastes like hops and toasted malt. Palate includes hops, citrus and cedar. Little bit of resin. Soft mouthfeel, low IBUs, incredibly drinkable.

3 month old stovepipe can A: Clear pale orange-tinted gold with 1" of beige foam and busy carbonation. Good retention and sheets of lace. S: Sweet orange, with light hints of pine, lime and caramel or sandalwood. T: Bitter orange pith and a little pine well balanced by woody and caramel malt, then a zesty finish. M: Light to medium body with slightly above average carbonation providing high refreshment and drinkability. Slightly resinous finish. O: Very good in all respects, it's hard to believe I'm just getting around to rating this.

Bottle/Fest. A- Grass, poop, citrus, rubber. A- Yellow body, clear liquid, white head. T- Dank, citrus, bitter, grassy. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- One of DFH claim to fame beers. Not for me. Way worse than 60 min or 120 min. Very grassy and bitter and an off aroma. Not a fan for such a highly enjoyed ipa.

16 oz pour on draft at Cheesecake Factory. Clear golden orange with off-white head. Aromas of citrus, floral, wheat, malt. Tastes of citrus, floral, malt, wheat. Medium-light body with a dry finish. A little lager-ish, beer lines might need some cleaning.

Bottle from Gristedes, NYC. Pours dark gold with a small off-white head. Aroma of light pine, citrus, hop, caramel and grass. Medium sweetness and bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation. Finish is oily with a little sharpness coming through. Ok.

12oz bottle. Odd that I never rated this til now. Had it when it came out in test run bottles back in the day. So even before tasting it mega props to this beer for making the public think about the boil more constructively....really upped the ante in that regard. Old school pine, resin, dryness. Really antiquated flavors, bold and heavy and in tune with what was hot at the time. I hope this bottle got skunked or something. Really unimpressive.

ours from 12 oz bottle a clear gold with a medium sized head of foam that shrinks to a fine layer with some lacing.
The smell is just bursting with a hoppy nose and also some malt and spice.
The taste is delightful. Lots of citrus(lemon & grapefruit) but the bitterness is firmly under control due to a solid malt backbone. Nice balance. Dang. The hops are done *so* nicely in this brew making for one hell of a drinkable IPA and the finish has a nice bitter kick that I just don't want to end. I've had this before and I'm so pleased I picked up this bottle on my last trip to Ft Collins.
Bottom line: This is one of my favourite IPAs of all time. I couldn't recommend it more!
