Our 2011 Great American Beer Festival® Gold Medal award winning Kellerbier style Kӧlsch. Same recipe as our standard Kӧlsch, just an unfiltered version served cellar style like a German Brewer might enjoy directly from the lager tank. The experience might not be as crisp as the filtered version due to the presence of yeast and other proteins that are typically filtered out. Try them both and see for yourself!

Tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy yellow with some thin white head. Nose of straw, malt, honey, lightly floral, some light spice. Flavors are the same, lightly sweet, bready, hay. Clean finish. Standard Keller.

Mad Fox tap ($5.75): Pours a very slightly hazy golden color with a white head. Although I have had the normal kolsch, I find it difficult to compare the two because of the time that has elapsed between tastings. In any case, this is pretty excellent. Aroma has nice bread and hops aroma. Taste is rather bitter, yet extremely drinkable. This is not watery in the least bit like many other kolschs, nor is it kind of rotten like others (Reissdorf, I am looking at you). All in all, this is an excellent, balanced Kolsch.

Sampler from draft. Poured a very hazy straw color with a small white head. Pretty carbonated - almost looks like what you’d find in a champagne bottle. Aroma is a bready, mild hops. Flavor is mild, with a crisp taste. A bit more bitter than the regular Kolsch that they also serve.
