We took a bold blend of hops and brewed it two ways. Weez is the hoppy result of blending with dark malts, while Another One is the smart blond fraternal twin. Hoppy and “roasty” from start to finish, this version is named Weez after our brewer Mark’s cat. A tasty black ale, it’s dedicated to stray cats everywhere — especially those cared for by a group we support, HART, the Homeless Animal Rescue Team of Maine.

Bottle. Deep brown/black body. Frothy beige head. Aroma of chocolate, grapefruit, roasted malts, pine, cocoa, citrus. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, moderate to lively carbonation. Nice balance of roasted malts, bitter hops, chocolate, resin, charcoal. Lingering bitterness. Clean.

Refrigerated 0.5 L brown bottle, bottled March 11, 2016 poured into a glass. Black with big beige/light brown head. Aroma is herbal hops & dark malt, medium body, medium carbonation, and some lacing. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate, herbal hops, some anise, some pine hops, and dry finish. Pretty heavy, flavorful, but just not for me.

$7.29 bomber, Wine Warehouse. Pours black with a large light brown, smooth, soft, fluffy head. Beautiful hoppy nose: citrus and pine, along with roasted malts, nuts, light coffee. Flavor is thinner than the nose: light flavors of peach and mango, along with a bit of citrus peel and pine. Slight coffee and chocolate tinge as well.

Bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate and licorice. Smooth brew with a taste of roasted malts and chocolate. A bit like a hoppy, drinkable porter.

Bottle courtesy of rlgk. Pours pretty much black with a small dark mocha head that leaves lots of spotty trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty, tiny fruity and slightly herbal with roasted malts, caramel, toffee, grapefruit juice, mango, peaches, dark roast coffee, liquorice, moist soil and lemon zest. Taste is tiny sweet, bitter, malty, tiny fruity and herbal. Mouthfeel is soft, tiny dry, astringent and medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and bitter with roasted malts, dark roast coffee and grapefruit. Solid BIPA. Nothing extreme. --- Beer merged from original tick of Weez on 04 Apr 2016 at 23:09 - Score: 7. Original review text: Solid BIPA with plenty of malt base. Nothing too extreme.

Bottle @ Benzai, medium sample. Dark brown color, medium frothy brown head. Aroma of fruity hops, grapefruit, bit pine, fair amount of roast, dark chocolate. Getting towards a hoppy porter almost with the choc and roast. Medium bitter in taste, nicely balanced between roasty bitterness and hoppy bitterness. Slight hint of licorice. Good balance, good beer.

Bottle [from trade with Abitker] @ home shared with Caesar. Opaque dark brown to black color, full sized brown colored head. Both aroma and flavor are a very nice mix of malts, lightly chocolate malts, roast and hops. Malts and hops blended together incredibly well, perfectly balanced. Medium body and suitable carbonation. Rightfully in the Black IPA top 50 if you ask me.
