We took a bold blend of hops and brewed it two ways. Weez is the hoppy result of blending with dark malts, while Another One is the smart blond fraternal twin. Hoppy and “roasty” from start to finish, this version is named Weez after our brewer Mark’s cat. A tasty black ale, it’s dedicated to stray cats everywhere — especially those cared for by a group we support, HART, the Homeless Animal Rescue Team of Maine.

500mL bottle, sent from Gregg657 (thanks a lot, Pete), pours black with a thick, lingering tan head. Nose reveals dense notes of roasted malts, piney hops, chalk, and dry unsweetened powdery cocoa. Flavour is similar, bringing out a great mix of roasted malt and piney hops, dry cocoa, some espresso, and chalk. Very dry palate, maintaining a great balance between roast and hops. Excellent stuff.

Bottle shared at the Tuesday Evening Horal Chugging Tasting - CBC Clerkenwell. Pours dark brown with a creamy beige head. Nose holds burnt wood, toasted pine and dark cocoa. Light to medium sweet flavor with burnt toast, more pine, some grapefruit, darkened grass and rich cocoa. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. Roasty finish, lightly warming, with cocoa and more burnt pine. Excellent.

Bottle, thanks to Leighton at the Tuesday Horal Chugging Tasting. It pours near black with a gigantic light tan head. The nose is roasty, toast, chocolate, light ash, dark fruit, cocoa, caramel and toffee. The taste is roasted malt, toasty, very bitter, peppery, dark chocolate, earthy, resin, charcoal and coffee grinds with a dry, damn bitter finish. Medium body, moderate+ carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Good body. A big, tasty Black IPA. Another win for Maine Beer Co.

Very decent beer. Pours pitch black with great head and lacing. Some piney hops, bitter dark chocolate and lighter roast flavours. Medium bitter finish. Average carbonation, and a cool palate for a lighter stout. Tap at brewery.
