Poured up on tap at Tipsy Cactus where it exhibits a murky dark to milk chocolate colored body that supports a nice light brown head of foam. The aroma offers up various inviting hoppy notes with melon, berry and then fainter notes of citrus and woodiness blending into a bit of roasted malts and chocolate. The taste delivers bitter floral hops and then grapefruit with a dash of lime to start. To midway it dries out as mild dark roasted malts and a sense of chocolate malts come to the surface. Pretty nice offering with bitter hops and subtle malt roastiness.

Can from the brewery. Canned 12/7/16. Pours thick, black with a clean, light brown head. Strong, spotty lacework. Aroma of dark / smoked malt, pumpernickel bread, some spice, and a bit of rye. Light herbal hops as well. Drinks malty and a little smokey, light / clean bitterness. Has a nice, smooth mouthfeel, soft carbonation, and a lightly dry close. Pretty interesting mix with the smoke flavors, bready malt flavors, and the solid, balancing hop bitterness. A fun one.

Draught at the brewery. Opaque dark brown with small spongy tan head, coffee beans aroma, low carbonation, bitter burnt malt taste, medium body, long burnt finish. Good but not spectacular.

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours black with beige head. Aroma is dark chocolate, herbs, pine, and dirt. Taste is rather bitter. Plenty of bite to it. Very dry. I like it many much.

A dark brown ipa with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with light coffee notes, floral and resinous hops, grapefruit pulp, nice. In mouth, a nice fruity chocolate malt with light coffee, floral hops, resinous and piney, very nice and quaffable. On tap at Winter’s grind February 2015.
