Spookily smooth and chocolatey, Dark O' The Moon will leave you howling for more. This pumpkin stout touts a full body with a creamy texture and features notes of cocoa, brown sugar, vanilla, dark fruit, and pumpkin. A perennial favorite and 2010 Silver medalist in the Great American Beer Festival Field Beer category, Dark o' the Moon is brewed with Great Western pale, Crisp 77° Crystal, Munich, Cara-Vienne, roasted, chocolate and Special B malts. Pumpkin in the mash, kettle and fermenter. Bittered with Magnum and finished with Saaz and crushed cinnamon.

From tap. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan to brown head. Aroma is herbal, spiced and roasted malty. Caramelish. Spiced, soapy, toasted malty and herbal. Bitter and dry roasted finish.

Cinnamon seems to be the dominant factor, in both aroma and taste. A little nutmeg is also obvious. These two flavors mostly obscure the stout underneath, but also blends nicely. Overly smooth, slightly savory, and all around nice fall seasonal.

Rattle ’n’ Hum, NYC tap: Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate, pumpkin, and cinnamon. This has a very unique taste. It is nice and full bodied. The spiciness gives this a nice taste throughout. I don’t know if I really tasted much of the pumpkin seeds for example. However, this was a pretty unique stout.

Dates on Elysian beers? Right on. Way to go, Elysian - stamped bottom left corner of the bottle - \"pkg 09/03/14.\"
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a nice dark brown close to black color with a slim finger’s worth of off white to tan foamy head. Light lacing traced around the glass in a slight foamy way.
The smell started off with a decent strong cinnamon pop over top of a light silky smooth chocolate coated pumpkin spice.
This followed through on the taste in a sweet sticky fashion.
On the palate, this one runs over in a sweet to spicy and sticky cinnamon over my tongue. It’s about medium bodied with a good sipping quality about it.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good pumpkin beer to have again, though not as stout like as I had wished for. Still worthy!

Tolerably done pumpkin beer. Mixes well with roast malt elements. Light dark chocolate. Finishes in good mix of sweet and roast bitter. Black with good head and lacing. Tap at Black Squirrel.

Draft @ Falling Rock Tap House, Denver, CO. Pours a dark ruby black color with a small tan head. Has a fruity weak roasted malty spicy pumpkin aroma. Slightly roasted malty spicy pumpkin flavor. Has a roasted malty spicy pumpkin finish with hints of chocolate and cinnamon in the aftertaste.

On tap at bier 30. Pours out black topped with a tan head. Aroma is over the top spice nutmeg cardamom pumpkin roast and some dark roast. Taste is as the nose over the top pumpkin spice. It was to much I didn’t even drink half the glass. I guess this fall I have come to the conclusion I am not a pumpkin beer fan after all.
