Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Label now only shows 5.5 % ABV. Pours a slightly hazy pale amber with an off-white, lacinh head. Aroma of skewed British hops and vitamin C. Medium body, nuts, caramel and British hops that leave a solid bitterness. 230909

50 cL bottle. Pours almost clear and golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma is mild citrusy and vague astray like hoppy. Sweet, mild peachy fruity and mild citrusy. Smooth peachy and fruity hops flavoured finish with a lingering light sweetness.

Bottle:Clear, copper coloured, visible carbonation, small and stable white foamy layer; typical "english" nose: juicy malt, subtle fruitiness with a dryish hoppy background; moderate dryish bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied, soft MF; dryish lingering hoppy and fruity finish. Fine english stuff..........

on tap at the Kilverts in Hay-on-Wye, which is in Wales but has a Hereford postcode. Amber colour with a small head. Smooth carbonation. Very malty with a lovely fruity character. Pleasantly fruity with flavours that remind of ripe apples and aged dry cider. Delicious.

(bottle) Clear, amber colour with an off-white foamy head of medium size. Lemon-fruity and resiny hoppy aroma with spicy notes. Moderately bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a crispy carbonation. Solid cara-malty taste with fruity and spicy, also slightly resiny hops. Dry and moderately bitter finish with an aromatic hoppy touch and a subtle malty sweetness. Quite underrated beer (11.VII.09).

Cask Conditioned at J.D. Wetherspoon - The Pommelers Rest, London
Golden color; generous head. The aroma is lightly grassy, not particularly nice. It has the usual caramel flavor, grassy as well, light sweetness (which makes it easily drinkable) with a late astringency; in this case the grassy touch is not as pleasant as it’s usually in English Ales; correct bitterness, the final has some freshly cut wood too. Simple.

Cask at Penderels Oak JDW, Holborn, London, 23 Nov 2008. Orangey amber colour with creamy, off-white head. Fruity nose with notes of orange peel, Seville orange and citrussy hops. Fruity taste with orange, mandarin, biscuity malt and a bittersweet finish with hints of orange marmalade and citrussy hops. Medium body, rather sweet. Nice bittersweet citrussy character.

A lightly hazed golden ale with a very thin white head. Aroma of honey, apples, light hops and solvents. In mouth, surranated hops with biscuitty malt, cloying solvents, fusel alcohol. Bought Nov. 2007, at Marhun, tasted Sept. 2008.

[cask at Eldon Arms, Reading] Amber with a small but lasting white head. Tastes of vaguely sulphurous earth at first with lots of malt - like a toned-down Henry’s IPA. It’s therefore rather a surprise when it suddenly lightens up to reveal light fruits (melon? apricot?). Some green leafiness also occassionally pops it’s head over the brim of the pint to say "hi" to your tastebuds. In fact overall this turned out to be a surprisingly (and dangerously) quaffable, light, refreshing pint - one that you would imagine knocking back a few of in the summer. However, with the high ABV you’re not going to do this, which kind of makes you wonder what this beer is actually for? It certainly doesn’t have the breadth or depth of flavour to make you slowly savour the pint. Overall it tastes like a reasonable quality bitter, but is a little disappointing, even insipid, for something of this strength (I couldn’t taste the alcohol, but it certainly kicked in when I went back to work...). It did give me flamboyantly malodorous flatulence all afternoon though...

Cask at the Eldon Arms, Reading. Amber with a thin white head; flowery and fruity aroma with apricot and peach; fruity and malty flavour, rich and sweet; dry and nutty finish. A very pleasant ale.
