Hop Dam has been a long time in the works, and its design required us to build a large stainless steel hop dam for our kettle, just for this beer! It was worth all the effort, because this beer is extremely hoppy and very satisfying, using 50% more hops than our Mean Manalishi Double IPA, which was voted Best Double IPA In The World by the US Beer Tasting Championships. Hop Dam is 10% alcohol by volume, and really hoppy, with a bitterness level that is very high but refined and therefore refreshing – its like kissing a hop!! Along with all the standard hop additions, it is also mash-hopped, first-kettle-hopped, and dry-hopped!!! Hop Dam is a 100% American-style IPA, dominated by the top-rated, assertive and refined Amarillo hops, along with lots of aroma and flavor from Columbus, and Cascade, and the wonderful Summit hops – the very special dwarf hop plant picked by hand, and sought-after for its great flavor and aroma. These hops work great together, and make Hop Dam TRIPLE IPA our new standard for hoppy beers!! It will be available for only a few months, so get Hop Dam while it lasts!

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Pours a deep golden with a slight haze and a surprisingly diminutive head. Very fresh citrusy and peachy hop aroma. Solid body, quite some fruit and sweet caramel - massive residual sweetness here. Lots of peachy aroma hops, almost exotic. Hoppy finish but not overly bitter - the sweetness hides most. 240610

Clear amber with a tiny beige head. Hoppy aroma with pine, grapefruits and malty notes. Hoppy and dry flavour with grapefruits, pine and caramel malt. Finished dry and bitter.

Bottled. A light amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of citrus and other fruits, hops, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of hops, over ripe fruits, and alcohol, leading to a very bitter finish. Thanks Theis for sharing.

Bottle 22fl.oz.Clear medium to dark amber orange color with a average to large, frothy - creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, heavy hoppy, orange, pine. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily and sticky, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light to moderate alcoholic. [20100609]

Bottle shared by Kevin, thanks! Pours a cloudy orange with lots of visible yeast sediment and a white head that laces nicely. Aroma has a good amount of grapefruit and pine hops with a hint of backing onion and caramel. Flavor begins with grapefruit and pine but finishes with a bit of onion and dankness. Bottle. Pours a hazy grape-fruity gold with a thin white head. Aroma has strong citrus notes with an underlying pine hop. Flavor begins with citrus and a hint of floral, but the pine hops tend to grow towards the finish.

Bottle from a trade with phaleslu. Pours slightly hazy orangish color with eggshell color head. Citrusy aroma of oranges and grapefruit. Flavor is pretty bitter with grapefruit and some sweet maltiness. Medium body with aboveaverage carbonation. Thanks Peter.

bottle @ OTH, thanks Tony. pours amber, white head. Aroma, hop bomb goodness, grapefruit, grassy hops with a big bold pine nose. Favors, strong hoppy mouhfeel, warming abv, like taking a trip in a fresh pine forest of hops, fruity grapefruit and some spices. Even at 10% this one remains very light and enjoyable. Thick palate with lingering sweetness.

$15.99 (OUCH!) bomber pours crystal clear deep copper with off white head. The aroma jumps out of the glass with sweet citrus hard candy, grapefruit, pine resin and a bit of booziness. The taste is robust citrusy hop goodness moving from grapefruit and tangelo hop flavor to citrus hop bitterness and some pine resin by midway. It briefly becomes mildly sweet with malts creating a citrus candy sensation before the hop bitterness clobbers the sweeter flavor into the finish. Damn expensive but damn good too.

Bottle, home. Good beer but a bit disappointing. This beer pours a pretty standard shade of orange-gold with a nice head, a shade or two of yellow past white. The aroma packs a lot of hops. It seems to run a bit more piney, but the big three American hop aromas, pine, grapefruit and floral, are present and accounted for. DIPAs seem to be locked in a battle for most fragant and Hop Dam does well in this regard, but I’d honestly prefer something more than pure strength at this point. The flavor is dry and generally good but just a bit too astringent/paint thinner heavy to compete with the best DIPAs. It’s nice and bitter, and I’m certainly not scared off by the astringency, but the best DIPAs (looking at you PtY) just drink smoother. Mouthfeel is a tad rough. I’ve just been bowled over too many times by too many other super-hopped DIPAs to be all that impressed by this sort of no-holds-barred take on the style. That said, I love hops, and this beer certainly provides a hop fix.

Bottle from the release weekend. Pours a hazy copper-orange color with a medium thick light beige head that diminishes slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. Assertive hops aroma with piney and citrusy notes. Rich body with a big resiny hops character with notes of citrus and tropical fruits, as well as a touch of sweet malt. The finish is piney hops with a grapefruit aftertaste. Overall this beer is a hop lover’s dream. Very good all around.
