Aroma has notes of pine, crackery malt, grapefruit. Taste has a moderate pithy bitterness and no real sweetness. Crisp, clean flavors. It’s good, but I remember being a lot more impressed with this when I was at the brewery ~15 years ago. Either my tastes have changed or the rest of the beer world has caught up with what Russian River was doing decades ago, so this seems pretty average now.

Review based on the BJCP2021 guidelines (style 21A). Bottle 51 cl - Batch undeclared (bottled on 03.18.25). AROMA: medium to medium-high hop aroma (grapefruit, slight lime and piny), medium-low clean malt background with faint sweetness. APPEARANCE: pale yellow to yellow color and cristal-clear. medium white head, creamy, with good retention. TASTE: similar to the aroma with medium-high hop flavor (grapefruit, lime, pine). medium-low neutral malt background, supporting the hops. medium-high to high bitterness with a dry and bitter finish that persists. MOUTHFEEL: medium-low body with medium carbonation. slight hop derived astringency. OVERALL: a classic prototypical american IPA, clean and showcasing just the hops.

On tap, multiple times in San Diego - firstly at Neighbourhood, San Diego, 13th February 2025. Pours clear golden. Aroma is pithy and heavy pine. Taste is bitter, pithy, pine and resin, oily mouthfeel, loads of flavour and a long bitter resinous finish. Fabulous, maybe beats Pliny the Elder for me

A citrucy hop bomb!!!!! Its all citrus all the way. Very little malt, no pine notes to speak of. The bitterness it wild, and gripping. Leave an unbelievable citrus aftertaste. Incredible stuff! Man i wish i could get it all the time. Vive russian river!!

From tap at Toronado, San Francisco. Aroma is fruity hop, biscuity malt, tropical fruit, pine and light caramel. Flavour is above moderate sweet with a firm bitter finish. Body is medium. Pretty great balance and good ’finesse’ to this piny fruity malty IPA.
Piney, citrusy and hoppy
