Our flagship beer, and firm daily favourite, is a classic European Pale Ale. Golden, crisp and bitter with a floral aroma owing to Slovenian and Czech hop varities, carrying notes of lemonbalm, tangerine, minerals and a touch of white pepper. Modelled after the late 19th century predecessors from Burton-on-Trent, it is one of the very few examples existing of a Burton Pale Ale.

Bottle from Beer Moth, Manchester. Hazy orange pour with a thin off white head. Aroma had notes of bread, grassy hop and a little fruit. Flavour was yeasty with some pale malts and citrus also in attendance. Crisp and dry with a decent bitter finish. Solid and drinkable offering.

Bottle from Bacchinalia, Cambridge. Hazy brownish gold. Massive rocky beige head. Piney, resiny hop, applesauce, yeast, a hint of tropical fruit in the enticing scent. Taste starts bittersweet and light, disappears for a moment, then reappears as a waxy bitter at the back of the tongue. Finish brings a hint of bitter herb and toffee apple. Light to medium body. Nice carbonation. Odd. But nice.

Hazy light amber with nice white head. Pineapple, mango, passion fruit and some other tropical fruits up front. Some pine and flowers follow. Nice clean malts and a spicy yeast aroma that actually works quite well with all the hops, mainly because the beer is not very sweet and has a deep bitter taste. Medium bodied. I really like it, the finish is really quite bitter but just not too much. Pretty good overall.

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, golden colour with a big and off-white foamy head. Citrus-fruity and flowery hoppy aroma with hints of pineapple. Mildly bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a lively carbonation. Dry-ish and mildly bready malty taste with fruity and slightly spicy hops; dry, moderately bitter and slightly spicy hoppy finish. Not overly exciting. 03.XI.13
