After secondary fermentation in the bottle in the purest tradition of Floreffe’s abbey beers, it has a very deep, almost black colour with a brown head

Bottle at Hops, Crewe A nice heady nose featuring plums and black cherries. Pours a dark reddish brown with minimal cream head (even when I try and create a head !). In the mouths it’s a dark fruit cocktail, including plus, raisins, bananas and brandy snaps. Has nice soft carbonation. The finish is plumy and fruity – plus a warm boozy alcoholic glow inside me !

Peararoma. Sweet and alcoholic flavor with some roasted malt. Strong glue flavor. Medium long burning finish with some bitterness. Disappointing.

Prima Melior is provided me at Arnhem’s Cafe Moortgat at the recommendation of my friend, Rene. I see an amber going to brown liquid with a lightly floral scent. I detect honey, a nice yeastiness with a slight sweetness. Personally it strikes me, flavor wise, more as a tripel than a Belgian strong ale, my view of it. Interesting.

Bottle. Foggy brown beer. Moderate off-white head. Aroma: caramel, toffee, prune, dates. Medium body. Malty taste. Nice caramel, rich dried fruit. Light bitterness. Very tasty. The best effort from Lefebvre so far.
