F: big, white, good retention. C: deep gold, medium hazy. A: malt, noble hops, grassy, banana, cereal, honey. T: malt, grassy, caramel, hint of fruity, mineral, bread, hint of iron, medium body, huge disturbing carbonation, nothing very special here, 0,33l bottle from BelgoMarkt in Brussels.

Bottle at a tasting. Rather neutral, bland, mild. Slightly earthy, grassy. Easy drinking with its high carbo, but could use more character.

Bottle. Typical tripel candiness, yet softened by the low ABV. More hop character. Light body, thin and watery. Lively carbonation, yet not the typical tripel experience. Meh.

Bottle, slow but persistent gusher... Hazy golden, airy white head. Yeasty aroma, fruity with funky notes. Flavour is yeasty, citric. Some spice. A little watery.

Bottle. Hazy golden color with white head. Aroma is cookie dough, grassy, slight graininess like many other Session beers have. Taste is dough, yeasty, a bit estery. No booze. Session Tripel is a weird idea, and tbh, it’s quite the anti-tripel. But drinkable.

Lighter version of Bersalis Tripel, around since 2009 and apparently named after a former De Neve beer. Strange I haven’t had this before, must have confused it with the Tripel in the past six years... Anyway, bottle from a Delhaize supermarket, with the specification ’session tripel’ on the label - which means as much as ’ordinary Belgian blonde’. Cobweb-lacing, egg-white, medium thick, stable head over a hazy peach hued golden beer. Aroma of strong (not to say extreme), soapy coriander seed, gingerbread, cloves, sweet gale, warm apple cake, banana, some iron but far less obtrusive than I had feared considering the fact this is made at Huyghe, dry breakfast cereals, honey, grass. Fruity onset but not too estery, sweetish and sourish with impressions of red apple peel, Conférence pear, gooseberry and some faint banana, fairly strong (over-)carbonation, minerally and souring a bit further, light malt backbone, cereal-like with just a hint of ’breadiness’, metallic effect on top of it (yes, this is clearly Huyghe), all overshadowed by bittersweet spices, clear resiny coriander in a dosis way too high for my personal liking, ending a little bit yeasty (but not ’starchy’) with bittering grassy hops (insufficiently) trying to counter the coriander effect. I have to admit it: I do not particularly like the Tripel version and the name of Huyghe makes me highly suspicious in view of the dozens of disappointing experiences I had with them throughout the fifteen-odd years I’ve been keeping track of the beers I savoured, but generally speaking, this is less bad than expected; it has more hop bitterness than I thought, but at the same time it is so deeply drenched in coriander seed that it classifies as ’coriander soup’ - a deScription I regret to use once more. In summary: clearly overcoriandered, bit thin, bit metallic Belgian blonde ale. I commercially understand the purpose of Bersalis Tripel in trying to appeal to a larger audience just as a means of funding the real important thing here (the Oud Beersel lambics) but then why did these guys come up with this? A notable fact is that the earlier ratings here do not seem to make any mention of coriander, whereas the more recent ones do - leading me to assume this ’coriander effect’ is a more recent addition, probably coinciding with the addition of the meaningless ’session tripel’ designation...
