Here at Nya Carnegie, we believe that great beer doesn’t just have to be for evenings, weekends, parties, beer festivals, or dinner parties… What about those times when you want that big beer flavor without the effects of the alcohol that comes with it? What if you’ve got stuff to do? Why should that mean you have to miss out on those wonderful caramel malt notes, that delicate, but insistent bitterness, those tropical fruit hop aromas that we all love and associate with craft beers? We believe we’ve found the answer. In Sweden, there has long been a tradition of breweries producing ‘lättöl’ (defined as beer under 2,25% ABV). More often than not, these brews are ‘pilsner style’ lagers

Nya Carnegie is proud to present Halvljus – an ale brewed to have the maximum aroma, flavor and mouthfeel possible in a 2,2% beer. Using a high temperature mashing rest to promote the production of unfermentable sugars, we have ensured that there is a large amount of residual malt sweetness that compensate for the lack of body usually found in a low alcohol beer. This technique, combined with carefully chosen malts and the Wai’iti hop from New Zealand, rich in mandarin and lime notes, produces what we think is the perfect lunchtime beer. Enjoy it anytime at our restaurant in Hammarby Sjöstad!

Hazed deep golden pour with a fine off white head. Moderate intensity in the aroma. Ok carbonation level and an ok balanced sweetness. Caramel malty, mild wort and a bit bready flavor. Decent low alcohol beer.

(Bottle) Hazy amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, slightly fruity nose with notes of toasty grains, apricots, orange, mandarin peel and caramel. Malty, fruity taste with apricots, brown bread, toasty grain, orange, toffee and a gentle citric bitterness in the finish. Light body, with a touch of sweetness. It is thin, but it's really tasty with rich and well balanced flavours for a low alcohol beer. Quite nice.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours amber with a slight haze and a tiny, white head. Nose is sweet malty, with an edge of lightstruck. Medium body, surprisingly decent mouthfeel with a short, dry finish. There isn’t much there especially when it comes to hops. 131216

Bottled 330ml
Hazy amber color, big cloudy white head, lace. Bad grass, grainy, yeasty sweetish aroma. Light-bodied. Grassy, light citrus, harsh low alco notes. As for 2.2% beer flavor is ok, aroma is terrible.

Bottled (from Coop Gourmet, Umeå). Golden colour, mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is grains, some floral and mild wooden notes. Flavour is biscuity, some sweet malts and mild nutty and earthy notes to it. A bit thin as for the palate.
