Here at Nya Carnegie, we believe that great beer doesn’t just have to be for evenings, weekends, parties, beer festivals, or dinner parties… What about those times when you want that big beer flavor without the effects of the alcohol that comes with it? What if you’ve got stuff to do? Why should that mean you have to miss out on those wonderful caramel malt notes, that delicate, but insistent bitterness, those tropical fruit hop aromas that we all love and associate with craft beers? We believe we’ve found the answer. In Sweden, there has long been a tradition of breweries producing ‘lättöl’ (defined as beer under 2,25% ABV). Nya Carnegie is proud to present Halvljus – an ale brewed to have the maximum aroma, flavor and mouthfeel possible in a 2,2% beer. Using a high temperature mashing rest to promote the production of unfermentable sugars, we have ensured that there is a large amount of residual malt sweetness that compensate for the lack of body usually found in a low alcohol beer. This technique, combined with carefully chosen malts and the Wai’iti hop from New Zealand, rich in mandarin and lime notes, produces what we think is the perfect lunchtime beer.
