La Moneuse is named for A. J. Moneuse (b. 1768), a famous local bandit and gang leader, and ancestor of the brewers’ family. It is a classic "saison" beer by virtue of its strength and its earthy, aged quality. It has a hardy, semi-dry malt character, a fresh but not overpowering hoppiness, abundant yeasty, fruity flavors and a fairly strong, but pleasant and enticing mustiness.

Tap at Luppolo Station in Rome-Italy. Cloudy dark orange pour, off-white irregular foam. Nose: firm notes of malt, macerated grapes, grape skin. Mouth is surprisingly clean, ABV is hidden, ends bitter with a sweet and fruity overall.

Bottle. Etre Gourmet. Hazy, dark gold. Loads of lively, fast rising bubbles. Huge, frothy, lasting, off white head. Nose has granary bread. Soapy yeast. Baked apple. Taste is sweet, and bready, and yeasty. Soapy mouthfeel. Foamy carbonation. Some fruity esters on the finish. Dryish close. Ok.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Pours a slightly hazy copper with a huge rocky head that dissipates little by little. Big farmyard nose with apple and pear, wet hay, cobwebs. Very earthy with some manure notes as well. Full-on farmyard. Highly carbonated and a little fruity sweetness, but as the finish starts the bitterness kicks in. Dry finish with peppery hops. A lot going on and great for the price. Hides the alcohol very well.

May ’16. A 0.75 l bottle that poured hazy orange body with a big head. Nice fruity aroma, mostly peach and lemon with a touch of yeast. Flavor was lightly sweet, too, fruity, yeasty (although not as much as it could be judged by thick bottle sediment) and only lightly peppery hoppy. Highly carbonated with occasional metallic and muddy yeast notes. Thin to medium bodied with moderately long finish. Alcohol was not felt at all, making it really easy going and dangerously refreshing even on a hot summer day like this. One of the tastier Saisons around, for sure, almost like an average "Belgian ale" proper to be ironic. Or just objective? :) Anyway, it was fine.
