Bottled (BB 01/2009)
Clear dark nut brown color, small beige head. Toasted malty aroma. Grassy toasted malty flavor, some alcohol in the finish. Some sweetness. Standard bock in a good and in a bad.

Red-brown colour, off-white head. Aroma is sweet and malty. Flavour is of malts, sweet and caramel. Sweet and dry aftertaste. One-dimensional. People at Gulpener just don’t know how to brew a decent beer.

Yellow-brown head, slightly irregular dark beer with bright-ruby highlights. Sweet, gingerbread nose, vanilla, green cardemoms, caramel filling, very pΓ’tisserie-like. Burnt, roasted, (autumn)leafy flavours (nuts & mushrooms), much less sweet than suggested by the nose. Bit coca-cola-like too, all the same (qua combination sweet-spicyness). Palate is a bit empty, shame. Rather fizzy, bit burning MF. Medium bodied at best. I like the initial taste, but gradually, too easy soft-drink characteristics take over. As said, shame, it appears to have more possibilities.

(Thanks bierkoning for the bottle) Clear and ruby dark amber colour with a small foamy off-white head. A bit shy but quite sweet dark malt aroma with caramel and a tinge of herbal hops. Sweet flavour, medium to full bodied, smooth carbonated mouthfeel. Sweet malty initial taste with dark and slightly roasted malts, caramel, also toffee; drying out sweetness towards the end; malty and slightly hoppy and bitter finish. Tastes like a German malt lozenge but is not too sweet for my kind of taste. A fairly good Bock.

(Bottle 30 cl) Mahogany coloured with a warm, red glow. Very classical dark and malty beer with a pronounced sweetness fully balanced by a good, dry hoppy finish. Nice beer that just needs a bit in personality to be a great Bock. 110304

Sampled draught at Tapperij de Poshoorn, Maastricht.
Dark mahogany with rich creamy head. Little aroma. Notably malyt and medium sweet. Rich toffee flavour and a long bittersweet finish with more toffee. A warming bock well suitable for wet, rainy autumn conditions.

Rerate, 2014: bottle from Mitra Bunnik, BB Okt 2015, large sample, served in a tulip glass. Clear ruby color, short frothy off-white head. Aroma of toffee and caramel, slight toast, some autumn leaves, bit sulphury. Bit sweet in taste, slight bitterness as well. Bit sticky palate, that dry sulphury note again. Decent brew, but nothing out of the ordinary for a Dutch Bock. 3.3 Original from 2002: Clear brown color, with quite quickly disappearing foam. Malty aroma. Malty taste. Malty palate. It reminded me of the Brand Dubbelbock. Nothing much more about it i guess. As i said, decent bock, but not great. 3.0
