33cl Bottle from Sterk Avondverkoop, as Winterbier 2013-2014. Major gusher. Murky dark amber colour, big beige head. Aroma of overripe fruit, cooked apple, sweet, some spices, caramel. Flavour is sweet, very fruity, mostly overripe fruits, some plums, apple pie, toffee, light spicy, yeast, light-bitter finish. Medium bodied. OK beer, but their stuff is all so very meh and bordering on homebrew...

2013-2014 edition. Hazy amber, generous fluffy off-white head, dissipates very slowly, 5 mm layer remains till the end; bread, bit toasted, caramel, some butterscotch, dough, yeast, basement aromas, herbs; mild and soft bittersweet taste; medium body, creamy somewhat sticky texture; mild and abrupt bittersweet finish. This beer lacks expression, wouldn’t call it a winterbeer.

Trübes orangebraunes Bier mit sehr viel beigem Schaum. Geruch leicht hefig, reife Früchte, Äpfel. Geschmack nach reifen Früchten, leicht bitter, floral, etwas viel Kohlensäure, würzig.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Mitra Tiel. Dark amber with an off-white head. Spicy and hoppy aroma. Bittersweet taste with some yeast, which reminded me of ’t IJ beers. Nice winterbeer that tastes just as good on a hot summer night.

(Bottle, De Spuyt, Amsterdam, 1 March 2014) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark bread, caramel, raisins and toasty malt. Malty, roasted taste with dark bread, dried fruit, raisins, crisp-bread and a certain spicy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and quite spicy. Nice one.

33 cl bottle from De Bierkoning. Amber to red color, slightly hazy. Huge beige to red/pinkish head that keeps growing in the glass. Aroma’s: caramel malts, red fruit, some spices retronasal. Flavor is light sweet, somewhat spicy, light bitter. Medium bodied. Quite high carbonation initially. Finishes with caramel malt, then spices and eventually a moderate bitterness. Nice enough.

Bottle from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a hazy medium to dark amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is acid citrus. The flavour is moderate bitter very light sour with a hoppy liqourice bitter spicy bubbly palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. Not so bad at all but more like a Dubbel than a Winter bier.

Brown with soapy head. Dry, woody, malty aroma. Taste is similar, it’s very dry. Very gassy too.
