Aroma and flavour are very bitter with strong roast malts. There’s also a grassy edge to this one.

Bottle sampled at Gouda Winterbier Festival. Near black with a moderate beige head. Aroma of fudge, chocolate, caramel. Flavour is over moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle @ home. Opaque black color, full sized lightly creamy beige to light brown head that lasts for a decent while and leaves fair lacing. Smell and taste malts, slightly roasty, slightly liquorice, slightly bitter. Quite easy drinkable. Although it’s 9% ABV it tastes more like a ’normal’ stout rather than an imperial stout to me. Nonetheless, a nice beer.

Bottle from Berts Bierhuis @ HT. Black colour with a tan head. Nose is roasty, light fruity, slightly alcoholic. Flaovur is light roasted malts, fruits, slightly alcoholic. A bit cloying. Some fruits and coffee. Ok stuff.

Tap @ Kafe Belgie, medium sample. Dark color, small brown head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malts, hint of chocolate, quite some licorice. Quite dry in taste, not a lot of sweetness, bitter from malt as well as hop. Very dry feel to it, it lacks a bit of creaminess. Probably there is some sugar used in the recipe, but that improves the drinkability of the beer. Quite clean yeast used. Very decent brew.

On tap at Jopen Winterbierfestival. Served too cold. Black colour, big light-beige head. Aroma of hard-roasted malts, berries, cabbage, light sulphurous, coffee, liquorice. Flavour of liquorice, berries, almost tart from the hard-roasted malts, some molasses/burnt brown sugar, bitter coffee finish. Medium-bodied, fizzy carbonation. Not great imho, still a bit young perhaps.
