Draught as part of a tasting paddle, at The Local Taphouse in Sydney, on October 9, 2015.Black color, brown head. Sweet, caramel, buttery, rosted, toffee, coffee caramel flavoring scent. Metallic, dry, buttery taste. Some warming chili heat. Buttery, caramel aftertaste. Medium mouthfel, medium bitterness though so dry if comes through a lot.

Bottle. Dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of lamingtons - rather measly chocolate, desiccated coconut - and plunger coffee. And then going back for a does it smell like chile? whiff, yes it does. Fairly light bodied, lowish carbonation. Not very sweet, but otherwise tastes very like a lamington with a bit of chile and a decent whack of bitterness at the end. Very clever and lots of fun.

From a 330ml bottle on 16/8/2015 (shared by Butz with thanks). Pours a very dark brown with a biggish head. The nose is pleasant and chocolatey. Take a sip and there’s more chocolate, coconut, vanilla and a touch of coffee. The chilli is quite pronounced, giving it warmth and a bit of a kick. the texture borders on creamy and the carbonation is average. I’m not totally sold on chilli beers but this one is quite distinctive and well done. As others have noted, it really does have a bit of Lamington about it.

Taster at GABS 2015. Not particularly sweet (for a sweet stout) but nicely smoky. I really like the chilli in this, it tastes integral not an afterthought. Very inventive and yes, it does taste a little like a lamington.

On taster at GABS Melbourne: a lot of chilli on the nose, which certainly prepares you for the whack you get on first mouthful. The chilli isn’t almost too overwhelming, especially as it leaves the expected lingering aftertaste. Coffee and chocolate notes are well-matched.
