Raspberry Sour Ale

Berliner Weisse style ale brewed with two strains of Lactobacillus using traditional German kettle fermentation, and then a special ale yeast for secondary fermentation. 100kg of fresh, locally sourced raspberries were then added to the fermenter to help give this beer it distinctive colour, aroma and flavour.

330ml can from School of Animals, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a slightly hazy reddish amber colour with a mostly lasting frothy off-white head. The aroma is big raspberries. The flavour is moderate to light sour, with a crisp, mineral, tart raspberry palate. Medium to light bodied with average carbonation. A little one dimensional and a touch watery. Quite drinkable but it doesn’t stand out from the crowd.

Bottle at Mordialloc Cellar Door. Pours lightly hazed rose pink with a small pinkish head. Aromas of wheat, straw, fresh raspberries, lemon. Taste is light tart, subtle raspberries with lemon & citrus notes. Light bodied, spritzy carb, light sweet fruity finish. Refreshing with reasonable flavours for the ABV

330ml bottle into schooner. Pink beer with thin pinkish head that disappears Nose is yeasty and sweet with notes of red fruit. Refreshing and tart, the raspberries are only noticeable right at the end. True to style, easy-drinking Berliner.

(Bottle) Pours hazy pink with no head. Interesting aroma of raspberry, citrus, straw and cardboard. Light body, very fizzy. Taste is tart. There’s raspberries and citrus, and maybe a hint of yogurt and some subtle funkiness. Refreshing, tart, pleasant.

On tap at Mrs Parma, pours s cloudy pinkish peachy colour with a small white head. Aroma brings out fresh tart raspberries and lacto notes. Flavour is dirty, with filthy earthy notes, faint raspberries and lacto. Tastes like it was made with dirty water. Not a disaster, but it's not clean or harmonious. Needs work.
