Oude Geuze Boon is one of the finest examples of the traditional 100% spontaneous fermentation Lambic style. To moderate the sourness, Boon Brewery only brews Lambic in the 7 cold months, from early October until April, according to the traditional "turbid mash" system. This Lambic beer is aged for 1, 2 or 3 years in oak casks. The blend, a mild average 18 months old Lambic (unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised) is refermented in the bottle and can be stored up to 20 years. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name. Awards at the World Beer Championships: 2008 Gold, 2010 Silver, 2012 Gold Medal.

Olfactif où l’on relève des notes de pamplemousse qui ressortent des tons traditionnels de vieille ferme aux allures de couverture de cheval et de vieux cuir. L’acidité est assez faible au nez. Le visuel se présente avec une mousse rocailleuse de persistance moyenne sur un liquide doré orangé flou et avec beaucoup de particules et des bulles qui sortent de partout. Fortement effervescente en entrée de bouche, elle étale ses saveurs de vieille ferme, ses accents chevalins et son vieux cuir sur toute la palette gustative. Son fruité est légèrement citronné. Le malt plutôt céréalier sans aucun sucre. Le corps est moyennement léger et la carbonatation au maximum. Les accents de vieille ferme sont tout à fait en évidence dans cette Oude Geuze animale mais en manque de fruité pour rehausser son équilibre.

375ml bottle – Pours a hazy golden amber colour with a large frothy off-white head. Aroma is acidic, damp straw, tart apple and musty yeast. A dry sour taste with a light fruity sweetness, tart apple, pithy citrus and strong woody tannins with a dry finish. Not as sharp as some other geuze but not bad all the same.

375ml Bottle from Waitrose, Rickmansworth, Herts. A golden/amber coloured pour with a healthy white head that hangs around the whole time. Tart, yeasty, citrus, lemon, apple aroma and taste. I rarely drink geuze but every now and again I do and there is something about this style that I really like. A very Belgian experience.
