SNAB finds the inspiration for Maelstrøm in the Barley Wines of the American west coast. Brewed on the occasion of 10 years of SNAB and now a classic. Malty and alcohol warming while Oregon yeast and hops from the Yakima Valley in Washington provide a lively citrus-fruity character, further emphasized by the use of dry hopping. Discover and enjoy the strong, intensely rich stirring and complex pallet of Maelstrøm: "The Big Sipper" among the SNAB beers.

Aroma of sweet malt, chocolate, caramel, toffee, dried fruits, nuts, resinous hops. Flavour is sweet and hoppy, with a potent and lasting bittersweet finish. A really good Barleywine with a relatively restrained sweetness. This actually reminds me a bit of my Barley Wine favourite Anchor Old Foghorn.

Bottle at Pint Noord-Hollands Bierfestival, Heiloo: An very I.P.A. looking brew with great hops in it, and ofcourse pretty intense bitter finish.

Bottle sourced from Beer Republic and drunk at home (16/10/2021) - New 🇳🇱 brewery ✅- dark brown with a beige head. Toasted and sweet malts, with layers of caramel and toffee sweetness, fudge, brown sugar, dark dried fruit shred, medium plus body, some hoppy undertones coming through the lingering sweet malty close. Pretty decent BW overall.

On tap at Proeflokaal Arendsnest, pours a murky dark amber brown with a medium beige head. Aroma is very earthy, with toasted caramel and sweat. Flavour is not a whole lot better, with bitter earthy notes, toasted caramel, sweat, and yeast. Not sure how this has such high ratings - does not seem all that well dialed in, nor complex for a barley wine. Kinda lame.

Hops and blackcurrant both in aroma and flavor. Strong hopbitterness. Alcohol and juniper. Full bodied. Almost oily. Long hopbitter alcoholic finish. Maybe a bit sharp, should be eased with some storage. Fairly high quality barley wine. Tap: Sharp grapefruit and red berries aroma with clear malty notes. malty sweet, citric flavor with a firm hop character. Very well brewed beer, not too much alcohol.

Bottle best before 06/12/2014. Dark brown with a large, fluffy offwhite head. Smells dusty, old people, musty, sweet. Tastes bitter, slightly dry, old, old clothes. Waited to drink this one too long I recon. Medium to full body, slightly fizzy carbo.

Tap at Arendsnest, 12th September 18. Pours a dirty red amber, aroma is caramel, malts, taste is full, crystallised fruit, cararmel, bitter pith, citrus marmalade. Good beast

Bottle. Color: Orange brown, off-white head. Taste: Medium sweet, herbal, hints of caramel and wood. Dry mouthfeel. Nice balance between sweet and hopbitter notes. medium body, average carbonation. Pretty unique, ‘traditional’ taste. On the edge of being a Barley wine.
