Koff Porter is a top fermented dark, almost black, unfiltered beer, with a malty roasted aroma. Four different malts are used for this brew: Pilsner, Münchener, coloured and brown malt. These make up the beer’s characteristic aromas: roastedness, chocolate, coffee and liquorice. Koff Porter is generously hopped with Saazer and bittering hops.

Bottle thanks to wombat23. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is strongly of overripe plum with light chocolate undertones. Taste is sweet, a bit tangy, with lots of plum, raisin, and red grape juice mixed with smoke and chocolate. Body is medium. Overall the combination just borders on sickly but it somehow works. Would not want too much of this but as a dessert beer it’s just fine. Good stuff.

Curious as to how long ago this bottle began its journey to the States--kinda tastes like it might have been brewed during the Reagan administration. I mean, it's not a bad porter, but the malts have a definite aged quality to them, coming off musty and unexpectedly tart, lots of berry and burnt sugar mixing in with the dark-roast-coffee notes. Semisweet chocolate and raisin and licorice make an appearance, and the finish remains appreciably dry and clingy, but the sour notes keep growing as the pint warms. Caramel and slight java on the nose, while the pour comes out black with brown edges and a tan head but no lace. Good feel, but otherwise I'm pretty baffled by the love shown towards this beer.

12 oz. bottle, pours black with a medium tan / light brown head. Aroma brings out roasted malt upfront, followed by cocoa powder and a little chalky notes. Flavour is robust, with dry cocoa powder, toasted malt, and a little coal. Robust and smooth on the palate. Lots of depth. A pleasure to drink. Excellent.

$3.99 bottle from Wine Warehouse. Pours THICK and extremely dark, nearly black with a frothy, soft medium brown head. Aroma of dark chocolates, smoke, caramel. Taste is smoked deli meat, caramel, dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, ash, molasses... pretty complex and pretty delicious.
