In 1842, our first Brewmaster Josef Groll brewed a beer unlike any other. His crisp, refreshing golden lager was made with local ingredients: sweet Moravian barley, delicately bitter Saaz hops, soft Pilsen water, and bottom-fermenting H-strain yeast. Groll named this special beer after the city where he brewed it, Pilsen, where we still brew the same beer today. Over the last 178 years, pilsner-style lager has become the world’s most popular beer, with seven out of 10 beers in the world imitating Groll’s innovation. There are many pilsner-style beers out there, but only one original.

Bottle and can. Clear deep golden body with a thick off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of grass, buttered bread, underripe strawberries and grain. Flavour of earth, herbs and a bitter finish. Thin to medium body with a slick texture. Light fizz. An excellent lager, flavoursome and bitter.

One of my last can of from the coop promotion. As usual a classic and a friend for the summer, refreshing, correct bitter, dry, smooth and mineral, fair, malty, hop, 28.08.24

The unpasteurised version on tap is still an outstanding pils. Goes down incredibly well with duck, cabbage and Czech dumplings. Nice balance of malt and hops with a clean and satisfying aftertaste. I had this at U zlatého tygra (the Golden Tiger) near the old town square in Prague. No longer Czech owned (Asahi has owned it for several years) but the quality is still there. Still the best of its kind.

Bottle drunk at Sigi's birthday. Crisp, dry, earthy with smooth lightly-metallic bitterness that lasts. Classic and tasty, maybe the best beer in green glass.

500ml, can.
A pretty standard commercial beer. The draft version is a fan-favourite in the summer, on terraces - as far as I know :D
0,33l and 500ml, bottle.

Pours a beautiful gold w/medium white head. Always great looking. Too bad it is frequently skunked. But anyway there’s a lot of hop and malt when its not.

On tap at a restaurant somewhere in Prague. Pours clear gold with a large, foamy off-white head. Nose is rather biscuity and malt-forward with some dried grass. Flavour has clean biscuit malts, some damp grass. Far from the best pilsner available here, but still very well done.
