In 1842, our first Brewmaster Josef Groll brewed a beer unlike any other. His crisp, refreshing golden lager was made with local ingredients: sweet Moravian barley, delicately bitter Saaz hops, soft Pilsen water, and bottom-fermenting H-strain yeast. Groll named this special beer after the city where he brewed it, Pilsen, where we still brew the same beer today. Over the last 178 years, pilsner-style lager has become the world’s most popular beer, with seven out of 10 beers in the world imitating Groll’s innovation. There are many pilsner-style beers out there, but only one original.

Bottle pour into shaker pint glass from Andover Liquors. Appearance is clear gold with beautiful sparkle, 1/2-finger width fizzy white head with fair retention and trace lacing. Aroma is crackery, vaguely metallic pilsner malts, saaz hops. Taste is as aroma with metallic flavor overriding the cracker aspect, late bitter. Palate is light bodied with slick, thin texture, soft carbonation and dry finish as taste. Overall, the pilsner standard. 'nuff said.

On tap U kocura. So this is the original pilsner. It's a good beer indeed, and maybe it's good it didn't change, but honestly there are better followers out there.

Couldn't believe I hadn't rated this as drank dozens of pints in the past. Once downed 3 pints through a funnel in Prague. Anyway, an excuse for a beer. Appearance - golden with steady carbonation. Thin head. Nose - sweetcorn and green beans. A light metallic note. Taste - more boiled vegetables. Light Saaz spice. Again a touch metallic. Palate - light bodied with a creamy texture. Dry bitter finish. Overall - good Pilsner from the original home.

Clear, golden colored, medium white head. Aroma is of some malt, bit buttery, light grain, moderate noble Czech hoppy, spicy, herbal, grassy. Taste is medium- sweet malt, some grain, bit buttery, medium noble herbal, spicy hops, medium bitterness, dry finish, crisp. Medium bodied, average carbonation, bit oily. Some bottles and cans are nowhere near this good but I’ll remember it as it should taste... fresh, on tap in Czech Republic. Oh, so nice! (on tap, Brutal Assault festival, Jaromer)

0.5 l can, best before September 2018. Clear, golden with a medium large, frothy, stable, white head. Slightly sweetish, slightly grassy-spicy aroma of grains, some straw and traces of citrus. Slightly sweet, moderately bitter, quite grassy-spicy and minimally buttery taste of grains, straw, traces of citrus and a touch of vanilla, followed by a short, moderately bitter, quite grassy-spicy finish. Medium body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Way better when fresher, lots of crispy Lager goodness, still a nice brew.Old rating: 0.5 l bottle, best before August 2017. Clear, golden yellow with a medium large, dense, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, slightly grassy-spicy aroma of grains, straw and a touch of citrus. Sweetish, slightly grassy-spicy taste of grains, straw and some citrus, followed by a short, moderately bitter, rather grassy-spicy and a little metallic finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Disappointing, requires a rerate from a fresher bottle. (5/3/5/4/10/2.7)
