Since I have never had Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel nor Weltenburger Kloster Asam Bock I have to say this is absolutely my favorite beer. Aroma, appearance, taste, palate and overall perfect. (Had to re-reate because Andech’s beats it out!) Re-rate 12/10/17. Had it on draft. Best German beer.

Bottle at home, thanks to Eszter for this one. It shows fruits, earthy notes, cocoa, chocolate, coffee and even some walnut, so you get the whole package really. It’s light bodied with soft carbo, pretty easy to drink. Tasty and flavourful beer especially for the relatively low ABV, very good one.

bottle from mgermani, thanks!
ok, first off this is liquir bread! yum!!
Wow, does this pour dark, easily the darkest doppelbock i have ever seen, its looks like a porter or stout. Aroma is moderatly malty, with a sweet cherry to it. Flavour is ALL MALT. like a fresh baked loaf of bread, its so malty, i can almost chew that loaf of bread. I love this! the finish is so caramely, and sweet with a great bready aftertaste. LOVE IT!

Aroma of bready malts, caramel, chocolate, dark fruits, light smoke. Flavour is malty, a bit roasty, medium sweet (relatively moderate compared to most Bocks), with a moderate bitter finish. Well-balanced and easily drinkable. One of the better Bocks I’ve had.

Bottiglia.

Notes from 1/3/2009. Bottle from September, stored in my mini-fridge. Odd little production notches at the bottom, but no corresponding letters or numbers to compare them to. Fifteen minutes sitting, poured into one of Ommegang's tulip/snifter hybrid glasses. Two inches of cola suds, cascading down after barely a minute. Sporadic lace. (Barely enough time to play with the little plastic goat.) A thick oily-ebony color, with edges ruby-hued. A super rich whiff of molasses, raisins, teriyaki, & dates. The alcohol trails with a permeated, lingering smoke. Some anise & coco finish off the toasted end. A little too much here; haven't even tasted it yet. Taste is bready & reminiscent of pumpernickel. Slight, slight banana esters. Bitter chocolate & a slight metallic tone to it all. Lots of residual sugars without ever getting sticky or thick. Lightly bitter bark-like flavors, some stale coffee, & again, a bit of smoke. Subtle carbonation is a big plus for me. The alcohol never acts alone, as it's always macerating in some flavorful aspect of the brew, & avoiding any upfront confrontations. Creamy, but without any hint of lactose. A touch of licking your fingers while turning the newspaper dryness right at the end. Very savory, but the smokiness deters me from more then I want to consume. Just lighter in body then other doppelbocks. I think I prefer this one colder then most. It hides more of its diabetic & less familiar qualities that way, while still remaining succulent. :)

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours a dark brown with small tight looking beige head, modest retention Aroma is sweet, caramel, roast, light treacle, berries, hints of citrus. Taste has a lovely layered complexity which gives a wow factor. Sweet, caramel, bread, chocolate, fig, berries. Medium to full bodied, smooth, low carbonation, slightly syrupy but not in an artificial way. Top notch beer.
