Abner (1867-1953) is our great grandfather; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his fourteen children. In his honor, this imperial pale ale is dutifully crafted from American malted barley, a plethora of American hops, our ale yeast and water from Abner’s well. It is unfiltered and double dry hopped.

Growler many thanks to Leighton!!! It pours cloudy light orange with a small white head. The nose is sweet orange, mandarin, tangerine, pungent hop, earth and faint farmyard. The taste is orange, pithy grapefruit, tangy marmalade, spice, pine, some alcohol warmth and resin with a bitter, citric finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Nice level of bitterness and well balanced. Tasty DIPA.

Draft at HFS harvest festival. A orange / yellow color. Thick head with sheets of lacing. Smells of pineapple and a variety of tropical fruits. The bitterness is assertive but it should be. Deep, rich hop bomb. Citrus, floral and real resinous. You get the entire spectrum of bitterness. Malt is here but takes a backseat to hops. Oily texture with a medium body. Anything else I type would be rambling. Bottom line, another top tier brew from the Hill.

Growler shared at Sander’s place, NYC on an evening where we drank way too much beer - but a lot of it was HF, so it was good. This beer pours a lightly cloudy, rich gold with a frothy white head. Tons of sweet-smelling, juicy orange in the aroma. Big sweet flavor with honey and pale malts, hints of alcohol, grapefruit, orange, papaya. Full bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Super sticky, resinous finish with lots of juicy pine, ripe citrus, big pectin, honey, fructose, tons of tropical fruits. This drinks like a dream. Delicious.

Growler @ Stephen’s house. Thanks so much! Cloudy/milky yellow orange appearance with a khaki head. Onion/garlic, piney, ganja, mild grapefruit citrusy, fairly spicy hoppy aroma. Delicious, grapefruit/orange citrusy, garlic, piney, marijuana, chewy earthy, tasty flavor. Really a nice IIPA.

Pretty sexy package on this one. Really fruity body. Hard to say if it’s better than the Heady Topper I had right after but it may just be. Strong hops but not overdone. Just a great package with attention on all the details. On tap at Farmhouse Tap and Grill.

Pours up deep gold with a thin copper core and supporting an off white head. The aroma offers up thick chewy resiny hop goodness in the form of spicy yummy hops, bitter floral hops and then a resiny near grassy note in the background. The taste is pleasingly similar with rich sticky near resiny spicy and floral hops sliding around effortlessly over the top of a thin sheet of sweet malts. Yes. The hops offer up deep rich hop bitterness as well as ample amounts of ‘late addition to the boil’ hoppy flavor goodness. Nice stuff.

A hazed golden ale with a super thick lacing golden white head. In aroma, superb balanced and creamy floral hops, flowers, beautiful. In mouth, a smooth floral hops, nice and restrained, white grapefruits, resinous, pungent and well balanced. On tap at the brewery, March 12, 2012.

Split a growler with some buddies. Poured a light orange/dark yellow color with a bubbly white head - for being a week or two old from the brewery, it?s held up well. Aroma was mango/ripe peaches, with a touch of resin. Fresh, fresh, fresh smell. The flavor isn?t quite as good - but it may have fallen off a bit. Notes of grass, pine hops, pretty good malt balance.

Had this at Three Penny Taproom on draft. $7 USD for a pour into a HFS glass. The drunk guy next to me said, "good choice, bro!"
A - Light yellow appearance with lots of resin haze. Great alcohol legs on the edge of the glass. No head to speak of.
S - Dry hops, citrus, great woodiness like birch and some cinnamon.
T - Grapefruit is HUGE with pine, resin and orange peels. There’s a spiciness to this beer that I can’t quite pinpoint.
M - All bubbles, tons of lingering aftertaste for a delicious beer. Medium bodied.
O - Amazing beer. Maybe one of the best Double IPAs I’ve EVER had.
