Årgångs 2005 Porter for The Bishops Arms Pours viscously into a black beer with a suspicion of red hue; small but reasonably stable dark beige head, dense. Concentrated nuts, black chocolate, moccha, ink. Faint roasted whatever and slightly vinous aroma’s. Smoked taste, faint bitterish as black chocolate, but with a serious malt - or chocolate - sweetness underneath. Touch of acidity from the roasted malts, and a hint at salt, mineral-like finish. Very creamy, nearly voluptuous MF; slightly burning from all the roast malts. Full bodied, smooth as oil. Truly a rich brew. Big thanks to the Scandinavian crew for bestowing this on me.

Pitch black color with brown head, short retention. Mild aroma of roasted malt and cardboard, light tar. Full bodied, with round mouthfeel; good flavor of roasted malt and dark chocolate, quite rich, with some residual sweetness; but the signs of age are too evident: liquorice (too much), tar, cardboard. Strong bitterness, leading to a roasty final with notes of wood and oxidization.
Good but declining.

Black color, with brownish head, nice but not very persistent. The aroma is chocolatey, with some cream, cardboard, roasted malt, tar. The body is round and the mouthfeel smooth, a real pleasure; strong chocolate flavor, with moderate residual bitterness, and traces of liquorice; some tar, and light salt as well; but the bitterness is fading, and the beer is missing a better biting character.

Black color. Light aroma. Soft mouthfeel, good chocolate flavor, a bit oily. Nothing impressive though.

2008-02-07, vintage 2006, 8-5-8-5-17=43
Beautiful black oil, with a thick creamy beige head. Very good aroma, roasted malt first, caramel, light sweet liquorice. Strong body, a bit oily, with enough sweetness; very powerful flavor, caramel and roasted malt, very smooth. Ends like a top quality 85%-cocoa chocolate.

Black color; brown thick head; served at 12 °C in the original Courage Imperial Russian Stout glass it’s a beauty!
The aroma, having both roasted malt and a touch of vanilla, smells like dark chocolate; later, also some light aroma of leather and tobacco.
Full mouthfeel, but not sticky; malt, roasted malt, caramel, liquorice, coffee; some sweetness opposing the roasted malt bitterness; the ingredients are very well blended together. The final is basically roasted malt, but full bodied and very long.
An incredible brew. Thanks Maya for letting me try this beauty in the best conditions.

Small, creamy, dark brown head. Opaque black body. Deep, rounded, harmonic chocolate roasty aroma. Deep, powerful, sweetish taste of chocolate and honey, with afteratste of burnt toast and hops. Faintly sourish, probably because of the honey. Vaguely oily mouthfeel. Lovely! A great beer!

A black beer with a disappearing brown head. The aroma is sweet roasted with some notes of chocolate. The flavor is sweet roasted with notes of chocolate, coffee, plums, and over ripe fruit. Thanks to the brewery for giving this to RBESG for free.

Opaque black, very small expresso head. Very intensive licorice nose. Loads of licorice and roasted malts in full-bodied brew. Some sweetness too. Delicious, outstanding porter.
