Bottle, quite old. Lovely vanilla, chocolate, caramel, light coffee nose. Sweet caramel and vanilla, roasted coffee malts, bourbon barrel very evident. A bit flat now after all these years but still excellent.

Bourbon barrel aged oatmeal stout by the foremost craft brewer of Oklahoma, the basic beer upon which many more pastry-like variants are based. Thin and open, greyish-beige ring for a head, jet black robe with thin mahogany edges – altogether looking ‘noir’ indeed. Aroma of hot chocolate sauce, clear bourbon, lots of vanilla-scenting oak wood and old furniture, almond, molasses, shoe polish, walnut oil, toffee, subtle hints of gravy and liquorice. Sweet onset, candied dates and old raisins, touch of dried blackberry, refinedly tingling fizz, full and oily, even somewhat syrupy mouthfeel; deeply caramelly and bitter black-chocolatey maltiness with a hazelnutty edge, clear wood presence in the form of retronasal ‘oaky vanilla’ and drying tannic effects merging with a warming, hot bourbon effect that nevertheless is well-absorbed by the malts. A spicy hop bitter note in the end adds structure and depth as well. Intense, complex, boozy American style strong stout, quite ‘classic’ (the American way) for Prairie and in that sense a bit more restrained than some of their other imperial stouts – for the better, in my view.

12 oz. bottle, pours jet black with a small tan head. Aroma reveals deep but subtle layers of oak, vanilla, bourbon and a little roast. Flavour reveals a bit of soy sauce, followed by oak, vanilla, and a touch of roast. The soy sauce is a bit too much, but the barrel character is nice. Underwhelming for what it is, but it's good overall.

0,355l bottle at home. No BB date. black color, small coffee colored head. smells earthy, spices, soy sauce, peppery, toffee, light bourbon, light vanilla, nice smell. full body, light carbonation. tastes of light bourbon, some vanilla, marzipan, toffee, light soy sauce, bitter chocolate, spices. finishes very balanced with only a slight sweetness and notes of bourbon, vanilla and some bitter chocolate. very nice one, very smooth and subtle balance, not overly complex but very good to drink, alcohol only lightly noticeable.

Bottle @ Mikkeller. Pours Dark Black with a creamy beige head and lacings. Super Woody and slick bourbon nose and flavor. Good coffee, roast and a touch of vanilla. Silky with a warming finish. Proper!
