Late in the summer of 2012, we received a phone call from a farmer on the Western Slope. She informed us that she had a field full of delicious blackberries that were ready for harvest, but no one to sell them to. We had a batch our dark sour that tasted delightful and was ready for fruit, so we were happy to buy them.
We let those fresh, whole Colorado blackberries age in our dark sour for over two months. The resulting flavors were a mix of dark fruit notes that accentuate the rich caramel malt and vanilla notes in the dark sour. We can’t wait for that farmer’s next phone call.

Bottle @ Troy’s mead b-day bash - The Stein & Vine. Thanks Chad. Batch#1, brewed 09/20/2011, bottled 10/18/2012. I guess if you are gonna use French then why not call blackberry by its name instead of Framboise Noir and adding a typo? Vinegar does not make your beer awesome ....

Bottle - Cherries and rich oak. Cloudy brown with a decent white head. Acidic and tart off the bat, with berries and very slight oak. To acidic to enjoy the flavors.

Bottle shared by Aaron, thanks! Pours a hazy deep ruby red with a reddish tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has rich raspberry with some light funk and a touch of dark grain. Flavor has acidic raspberry that mellows into a tartness with light funk backing.

Bottle courtesy of tkrjukoff. Pours hazy reddish brown with a small bubbly goldenish beige head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is tiny sweet, sour and fruity with dark bread, blackberries, moist hay, lemon juice, unripe raspberries and lemon zest. Taste is very sour and fruity with dark bread, blackberries, unripe strawberries, red wine vinegar, burnt raisins, moist hay, lemon juice, sour milk and leather. Mouthfeel is dry, tart, mouth-puckering and medium bodied. Finish is sour and fruity with dark bread, lemon juice, red wine vinegar, blackberries, moist hay, lemon zest, leather and sour milk. Rather hard to drink but quite tasty.

Bottle @ Steve_0’s place. Thanks to Stephen! Pours a deep reddish orange appearance with a thin head. Caramel, vanilla, dark berry, oaky nose. Thick blackberry, light vinegar, fairly tart, vanilla, woody flavor. Tasty brew but not on the same level as VSB for me.
