Methusalem is a tradidional Dortmunder Altbier (also known as Adambier) which was especially popular in the 18th century in the area around Dortmund. It used to be one of the richest top-fermenting beers in Germany.

bottle. opaque deep brown. small beige head. wonderful rich aroma. a blend of dark malts, fruit esters, berries, light smoke and spices. full body. flat carbonation. the taste appears not as sweet as the aroma promises. rich malts, nuts, berries, esters, light to medium ending bitterness. a pleasure, this one.

Draught at BeerGeek Bar. Brown colored. AROMA- lightly smoky, dark fruit, black currant. FLAVOR- pleasantly sour, a bit sweet, lightly tart, fruity, currants, plums. Medium bodied.

0.5 l bottle from ’Vormann Brauerei’, 10% abv, bottled in 2014, cellared for more than two years. Clear, very dark reddish brown with a thin, dense, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, smoky, moderately roasty and a little sourish aroma of caramel, smoked ham, milk chocolate, some licorice and hints of dark fruits. Sweetish-malty, slighty sour, moderately roasty, quite smoky and a bit fruity taste of caramel, smoked ham, blackcurrant, raisins, ash, milk chocolate and some licorice, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, quite roasty, smoky and tartish-dry finish. Over medium-bodied, minimally astringent and moderately effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Great balance between sweet, sour and smoked flavours, doesn’t feel like 10% at all. Good!

Tap@Bootleggers, Copenhagen - Dark brown to black pour with beige head. Sweet and toasted malty, big caramel malty and light yeasty notes, some dark dried fruit, slight burnt sugar, sweet malty finish.

Tasted from the tap on the 05/02/2017. Cloudy cola colour with a thin head. Aroma of light fruits, sweet caramel and some plums. Taste is almost the same with a cola finish. Next one please!

On draft at Churchkey. Pours a cloudy cola with a tan head. Tart berries in the nose. Cherry, tobacco and leather flavors. Interesting and a great antidote to the Bourbon County offerings that I came here for.

Draught at Bootleggers Craft Beer Bar. Dark, brown colour with a thin, lightly tanned head. Sweet aroma with caramel malts, dark dried fruits, spicy herbal notes. A tart, fruity note with citrus. Taste is light sweet with a tart edge. Full body with an oily texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes sweet and dry fruity with citrus and dark, over ripe fruits. Good, rather complex.

500ml bottle on 7th Sep 2016: Shrewsbury beer share meeting, cheers Mat for this interesting brew. Ruby hue to the body, wispy head. The whole beer had an old feel and a good vibe: I found raisins, plums and dates in both the nose and taste: enough flavours to hide the 10% ABV. Really enjoyed my 5th of the bottle.

500ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Sep 16, courtesy of myself via Erzengel. Many thanks! Pours deep mahogany with a thin off-white head. Barley wine caramel on the nose. Taste is smooth, caramel, dark malts with a hidden underlying sourness. Quite a light body with some nutty old ale notes. Interesting.
