The smell is beany DMS with traces of apricot. Clear light bronze with a medium head. Phenolic candied marshamallow flavor. Finishes with a completely different character of slightly musty oak. Medium body, cloying, and off putting.

Pours a beautiful clear deep copper with tan head. The aroma has notes of fruity esters and roasted to caramel malts mixing together. The taste begins with sweet malts turning roasty and caramel candy like. Then peppery dark fruity esters emerge and overtake the flavor with raisins, peppers, prunes and bright red cherries. The undercurrent of malty sweetness runs throughout the flavor and builds some into the finish. Nice bold brash flavored brew.

12oz bottle. Burgundy cognac color. Deep rich malt profile with a little tang of Belgian yeast. Smooth and creamy. Mellow fruity tones. Heavy in alcohol and reminiscent of an old school Belgian Abbey ale. Sweet finish, really gets nicer as it breathes.

Pours light amber into a Trappist glass. Non-descript fruit and alcohol aromas. Cloying sweetness from front to back.

Bottle from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Pours dark red (looks like cranberry juice) with a small head. No lacing. Aroma of plum, nuts and toffee. Flavor is a lot more sour than expected. Cherry seems to be the dominant flavor. Smooth finish.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of markgugs. Clear, warm, amber golden with an off-white head. Sweetish, fruity nose. Full-bodied, some roasted maltiness and fruit - also both notes of dried and overripe fruit. The finish is quite alcoholic without much hoppiness. 311007

12 fl oz bottle. Pours clear hazzlenut brown with a diminished off-white head. Nutty and fruity aroma, slight metallic. Sweet malty with a note of chocolate and a liqourice edge in the finish. Ends with a slight woody note and a minor bitterness and with a sharpness from the fruits.

Large beige head rapidly falls to ring, leaving no lacing. Clear, dark grape-amber body claims to be bottle conditioned, but the head retention is very poor.
Tacky, Americanized version of a dubbel, with way too much alcohol and about as poor malt depth as you could imagine. It’s like they threw in a caramel chew and one raisin. Apples come out of nowhere and heavily vaporous alcohol ruins the finale. Medium aroma strength.
Biscuity/grainy malts are heavily thinned out on the backend from all of the phenols and alcohol, but begin quite sweet and tacky (caramel, vanilla). Some dark fruits are lightly poignant, but ultimately meld in to the all-consuming alcohol. Absolutely stark mouthfeel with none of the much needed/expected softness/expansiveness of a Belgian bottled ale. Black pepper, clove, light chocolate/roast and alcohol all sting the palate on the end. Did not finish.
I think these guys should give up on the Belgian-style beers....

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a chestnut color with a trace of a tan head. The aroma was sour, tangy, sweet and had an apple element. The flavor was sweet and sugary with notes of caramel, cherry, apply and a hint of nutty malts. The finish was dryish nutty caramel. The beer hides the alcohol very well.

Deep cola coloured body with a nice dense tan head that tops the beer very nicely. Looks good, although a bit too clear - doesn’t look like much body. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, nuts, raisins and strong tints of metal. Full-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavours along with plenty of pit fruits, dates, raisins and musty figs. Alcohol overload and a very chewy maltiness tucked in with some of the metallic twanginess of the aroma. Overall, a strong and potent beer that doesn’t start off too mellow. I think this beer will age well and taste better in time, but its a bit rough around the edges right now. Regardless of that, the beer still is good and is probably worth trying for the style...especially in a local Washington beer.
