22 oz. bottle, pours dark reddish brown with a small beige head. Aroma of grapes, caramel malts, dates, figs, some brown sugar and molasses. Flavour is a hybrid of a grapes / Doppelbock / Abbey Dubbel, with the grapes on the initial flavour, with the darker fruits, molasses and burnt caramel filling out the middle and finish. Quite nice, though the 2009 special was superior.

Half doppelbock, half belgian dubbel...brewed with grape juice? Why did I buy this? - anyway, what could have been a complete train wreck here is actually not too bad - the raisin and fig notes of the doppel actually combine decently with the concord grape juice flavor (which is present but fairly subdued) - light acidity from the grape juice works with those characteristics as well - medium sweet, but drying out just a bit in the finish - some moderate phenols and dusty/earthy character arrive through the middle - a little doughy on the tail end - lingering fig and raisin - not too bad, really.

Bomber from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear ruby red color with a large tan creamy head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of grapes, brown sugar, dark malts, toffee and an earthy finish. The taste is fairly bitter with notes of toffee, apple and raisins. Medium bodied. Decent.

Sampled on draft at 3 Rivers 6 Pack Eatery this beer poured a dark orange-brown color with a large foamy beige head that lingered and produced great lacing. The aroma was sweet with notes of grape, cola, raisin, caramel and pine nuts. The flavor was tart and bitter with a fruity hop presence and notes of grape, raisin, caramel and nut. The finish was long, sweet and a bit hoppy Fairly full bodied. Very nice.

22oz bottle. light brown color, off-white aroma, definitely a nice touch of grape juice / red fruits, malty, Belgian yeast in the abbey style. flavors, yeasty, grape, abbey style Belgian yeast, also get hints of caramel and chocolate. The whole blend of grape along with the abbey style is just perfect. I thought this was going to turn into a big sour grape fest, and everthing came out nicely balanced.

On tap at Datz Deli in Tampa and courtesy of thejohn. It pours clear deep copper with tan head. The aroma is roasty malts, caramel malts, figs, apples, spices, mild assorted fruity sweetness and yeasty spices. The taste is rich in flavor with roasted malts, sweet maltiness, some assorted yeasty and otherwise spiciness and then drying up in the finish with the help of a modest level of roasted malt astringency.

Bomber from I forgot where. Pours a dark ruddy amber with a low foamy beige/tan head. Aroma seems grapey with a malt background. Medium plus body with foamy carbonation. Flavor is roasted malt with some yeast/spice and either fruit or herb. I can’t yet get concord grape, so I must have gotten the aroma wrong. This thing is definitely Belgian. The doppelback apparently just makes it a sweetish Belgian. It finishes pretty balanced, and more fruity than it started. My tongue is getting coated with something that might come from concord grape skins, but it’s hard to say. Definitely a different brew.
