The return of “Bad Boy,” our ‘other’ double IPA, happens this Thursday as soon as our doors open. It’s NOT bottled but we will be filling growlers at the brewery and glasses at the pub. This beer, created by Shawn, uses hops that weren’t around when Pure Hoppiness was invented. That’s one of the reasons it has such a huge hop presence. We also use predominately Premium British ‘Maris Otter’ barley which enriches the flavor and deepens the body. Be careful at 9.25% abv

Growler. Poured a hazy golden/orange color. Aroma was extremely piney fresh hops, heavy on the citrus (orange, grapefruit). Flavor is herbal (dried greens), pretty earthy, and just has that all-around fresh hop character that I love.

Growler thanks to HOPSHUNTER: Poured a orange color with little head. Aroma is pine hops. The taste is nice mix of malt and high octane hops.

Growler courtesy of HOPSHUNTER, thanks again Jason. Pours clear deep gold with thin white head. The aroma is full and drool inducing with sweet rich citrus running into orange juice, fresh cut grapefruit, some spicy hops and smooth malt sweetness. The taste is the same with fresh orange like citrus and grapefruit flavor rolling into growing citrus hop bitterness and hop spiciness. Very yummy full up hoppy brew brimming with hop bitterness and malt sweetened hop flavor.

October ‘09 O-Town Throwdown, growler courtesy of Hopscotch. Pours amber/orange, of-white head. Aroma is hoppy, malty with hints of fresh hops, leading to a nice citrus nose. Flavor, lots of hops, sweet mouthfeel that was very exceptional, reminded me a lot of the New Zeland hops used in Nelson. Heavy hops and once again, Alpine manages to keep it very drinkable and smooth with very enjoyable hops.

Draft. Amber beer with a cream colored head. Grapefruit aroma, but not that strong. Grapefruit and other tropical fruit flavors with backing malt. Hop flavor is there, bu tneeds more bitterness - very disapointing for an IIPA. Creamy mouthfeel. medium bodied. Not nearly enough lingering bitterness.
