This mead was made with the orange blossom honey. A faint smell of citrus can be found in it’s bouqet. Two years of aging was required for this traditional style of mead.

Small little 6.3 oz green bottle thanks to my Secret Santa (sorry, I mean THANK YOU!!!). A bit of a different package than other Kuhnhenn meads. Capped and not corked among other things. Very pale, delicate, clear body. The legs are pretty insane. Strong, sticky, and completely stick to the glass. Buttery, honey, light wooden notes with flowers and orangey citrus following. Clean, lightly grassy. Great! Good sweetness but nice tannins in the back end of the aroma. This is a sweet mead. Taste is honey, sweetness, grassy-floral up front, finishing tannic and slightly dry in the finish with citrus notes. Not super syrupy as some of the Polish meads can be. Not super tannic either. Just pleasant and drinkable. Like a gewurtz. Medium to large viscosity. Quite pleasant.

Picked up the day after the 2007 Winter Solstice Party. Thanks again Lori. Pours clear water with a tint of straw and no head to speak of. The aroma is big sweet meadness and a bit of esters. I can almost taste the sweet mead through my nose. Yum. The taste begins with very sweet slick thick rich honey goodness along with a bit of floral essence. As midway approaches a drying sensation pulls some moisture out of my mouth creating a moment or two of refreshment. Toward the finish the honey sweetness returns creating a pleasing sweet finish. Double Yum.

A very good, unusual mead. Sweet aroma with mandarin oranges. Medium sweet flavor, with some yeast, flowers, sugar, and honey. Its a shame this is no longer available.

2002 bottle at the brewery. Pours a light golden/honey yellow with no head. This mead is uncarbonated. Smells lightly sweet of honey and melon. A faint whiff of lightly sweet orange jam, alcohol and vanilla all mix together. I was not prepared for the flavor. Rich does not even say it. Sweet, powerful, pervasive. Honey, almond, marmalade notes on the finish. Full bodied, smooth and delicate on the palate. Some alcohol notable on the finish. Just an incredible experience. I could drink a bottle of this stuff in about 5 minutes.
Rerate on draught, 5/5/16 at the new location.
Very cool to come back after so much time and see this beer still in production and served carbonated on draught, no less!
It didn’t disappoint either. While I’d like a bit more to make up my mind, I’m leaving the numbers untouched. This is still supremely flavorful, clean, and shockingly delicate for its strength. Orange blossom/rose water notes abound, with soft honey and light pepper characteristics. The carbonation breaks up the intensity of the mead, somewhat, which is interesting. Alcohol nicely concealed. Awesome.
