Aroma has rich malt character. Lots of toasted bread with sweet caramel notes. A but of a raisin fruitiness to the beer. A touch stale as well. No diacetyl and only a hint of a hop aroma. Light alcohol is present in aroma as it warms. A touch of a nuttiness is also present. Pours a beautiful copper brown with ruby highlights. Light tan head that is a bit on the thin side with poor retention and little lacing. Flavor starts out with toasted bread and some nuts but has a background sweetness to it with some dark caramel notes. Light fruitiness and no diacetyl. No hop flavor but moderate bitterness to cut through the sweetness. Finish has a bit of staleness. Esters include raisins, and light banana and cider. A touch of alcohol in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium light carbonation. Astringency is low but present. Moderate alcohol warmth. Overall this is a decent bock but not amazing. A bit too fruity for style and also tastes a bit on the old side. The melanoidins have pretty good complexity though showing toast, caramel and nuts. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

It’s a good doppelbock with an interesting blend of spices, hops and malt. The malt is strong and thick, nice and proper for a doppelbock. There’s a little bit too much alcohol flavor. It’s not bad, but it could be a bit more warming and less vodka. The nose is pretty good. There are some earthy metallic hops. The flavors are honey, chocolate, spicy, caramel and earthy hops. The feel is pretty good, but it’s not exceptional, like some of the top doppelbocks.

Smells weakly of grain, figs, and wet dog. Clear brown, medium tan head. The flavor is of roasted cereal, and figs, with coffee notes underneath. Dark chocolate and grass finish. Not terribly hoppy. Thinnish mouthfeel.

Very good, bock aroma, with caramel and malt. Dark red color. Lots of malt in the flavor also, some read meat, and more caramel. Very low carbonation. This is good bock.

500mL swing top with a different label though. Poured into a St. Paul snifter glass. Color is a clear dark brown. Aroma is dark , earthy, bark with very clean malts behind it. Taste is similarly earthy with a bit of an herbal, plant-like (maybe its hops) finish. This is a nice, easy drinking beer, very underrated doppelbock.

16.9 ounce fliptop bottle from Market Street Wineshop Uptown Charlottesville, VA. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a large head. Good head retention and ok lacing. Fruity aroma with toasted malts, spice and crayon. Bitter than expected taste with roasted malts, banana, caramel, clove, citrus and muted hops. Medium bodied.

50 cl bottle from BevMo, Valencia. nose is some floral hopiness, golden raisins, caramel, cinnamon, and some vanilla notes. Clear dark rusty brown with a medium beige head. Flavor is not as sweet as I would have guessed from the nose, but only a slight sweetness combines with some slight hoppy bitterness, mixing with some caramel, molasses, and toffee. Finish is a lingering light bitter note. Very decent doppelbock.
