AUTUMN - Traditionally brewed to celebrate the harvest season, this reddish-brown lager has a rich caramel character and a long flavorful finish. Its delicious malty sweetness is nicely accented by a slightly fruity bouquet and a mild hop flavor.

Bottle. Toasty caramel malt aroma. Deep amber with a large apricot/tan head. Flavor same as nose - toast and caramel malt flavor with a very subtle toasty bitter finish. Body on the light side of medium, average carbonation.

Bottle poured into a shaker. Roasty caramel with a good dose of citrus fruityness. Pretty decent beer, considering I don’t like Marzen styles.

16 ounce bottle into imperial pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy deep red color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of raisin, caramel, apple, molasses, toast, bread, toffee, pear, light nuttiness, and light herbal. Nice aromas with good strength and balance. Taste of caramel, raisin, toast, biscuit, nuttiness, molasses, toffee, and herbal. Lingering notes of caramel, toast, biscuit, molasses, raisin, toffee, and herbal on the finish for a bit. Very nice flavor balance and robustness; zero cloying flavors on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Oktoberfest. Well balanced robust flavors, and very smooth to drink. I have a feeling that this was a bottle from last year or older, but it held up nicely. Very enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Beer of the month club. Clear deep reddish amber color with a medium beige head. Aroma of toasted malt, caramel, nutty notes, light vegetal hints and a touch of noble hops. Sweetish chewy malt flavor with caramel, decent toastiness and a mildly bitter herbal hops finish. Medium-bodied. Not bad.

Yet another 16 oz bottle from Sprecher. I’m cautious, following a few horrid misses from Sprecher, but I’m not sure how they could mess up this style. Pours a deep coppery brown with a bit of a head and aromas of autumn leaves, damp earth, nuts and toffee. Not bad, but not as robust as I’d like. Flavor is pretty good... maybe a little caramel added to the aromas above is about all I’d say on the matter. It’s solid, kind of a darker and earthier Oktoberfest than most, but good. That said, it is a little thin at times as it slides across the palate.
