We took inspiration from a traditional winter warmer, integrating gingerbread-like spices into this dark ale. Bourbon barrel-aging brings complexity, elevating familiar notes of licorice and banana bread that mingle with hints of dark fruit, molasses, and bitter chocolate for a perfect cold-weather sipper!

Bottle from the Reserve Society Pours a deep dark brown with a garnet bend to it and a smallish tan head that quickly dissipates to a cap on top that constantly dances as the carb stream tries to replenish it. Smells of gingerbread, molasses, ethanol, woody vanilla lots of brown sugar and ripe pitted dark fruit. This smells a lot better than the regular version, or maybe a year has done this wonders. Heavy alcohol in the nose. The flavor is sweet with lots of dark sugars and hints of fruit. That is quickly countered with a heavy shot of ethanol and some mild spices. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick bubbly mouthfeel. Wow that’s still pretty hot, flavorful and definitely a sipper, but wow that’s some heat in there. 2/12/17 Cellar bottle, less alcohol but feels a bit thin nice fruity raisiny chocolate with bits of oak and bourbon.

750mL bottle, sent from Alen (thanks man), pours a near-black with a small ring of beige head. Aroma is very hot, full of cocoa nibs, bourbon barrels, and alcohol. Flavour brings out loads of cocoa nibs, vanilla, bourbon and surprisingly subdued alcohol. The near-15% alcohol is surprisingly well-masked, but there is a big warming effect. Nice flavours and well-balanced - but intensely hot in after-effect and a bit difficult to drink. Good stuff.

Big thanks to douglas88 for hosting and opening this cool brew. It pours with a clear amber body with thin copper hues supporting a tan head of foam. The aroma has loads of smooth sweet bourbon as well as some vanilla and ginger bread sort of mixed with holiday fruit cake. The taste is similar with smooth rich malt sweetened bourbon to go along with spicy fruit cake and various blended vanilla and sweet malt notes. Into the finish it gets boozy. Nice, the smoothness really makes this work for me.

750 ml bottle acquired via trade. Pours a murky brown color with a swirling small white head. A great boozy bourbon nose. The flavor is totally dominated by bourbon with some vanilla and oak, light leather, spices, mellow chocolate and mint. Very good.
