Oud Bruin (old brown) ale is made with the traditional blend of domestic yeast, wild "Brett" yeast and bacteria that give this ale its distinct aroma. We add a good amount of Michigan cherry juice after fermentation to add life back to this aged beer. Serve at 44-55

dark brown pour with a dark beige head. Aroma id big on the cherries, and lots of sweet malty funk! Quite an interesting brew! its like a blend of a doppelbock, and a cherry sour ale!

2010 bottle from Hoppymeal, thanks! Dark chocolate, malt and confit cherry in the aroma. Dark chocolate, dried cherres, Mon Chéri bonbons and tart notes in the flavor. Full bodied and slightly alcoholic. Rodenbach Grand Cru mixed with extra dark chocolate. I love it.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, 2015 vintage bottling. Pours hazy deep reddish brown color with a 1 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big tart/sour cherry, cranberry, lemon, raisin, plum, red grape, green apple, caramel, brown sugar, and toasted brown bread; with lighter notes of nuttiness, toffee, pepper, leather, tobacco, vanilla, funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Fantastic aromas with awesome balance and complexity of fruity/earthy/spicy yeast, sour cherries, dark/bready malt, and light-moderate oak barrel notes; with great strength. Taste big tart/sour cherry, cranberry, lemon, raisin, plum, red grape, green apple, caramel, brown sugar, and toasted brown bread; with lighter notes of nuttiness, toffee, pepper, leather, tobacco, vanilla, funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Moderate fruity/acidic tartness and light yeast/tannic oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart cherry, cranberry, lemon, raisin, plum, red grape, green apple, caramel, brown sugar, toasted brown bread, pepper, light toffee/leather/nuttiness, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy/spicy yeast, sour cherries, dark/bready malt, and light-moderate oak barrel flavors; with a great sweetness/tartness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from acidic/tannic flavors as well. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, fairly acidic, and lightly slick/syrupy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 10.5%. Overall this is an outstanding imperial Flanders brown ale! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy/spicy yeast, sour cherries, dark/bready malt, and light-moderate oak barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the ABV, with the balanced acidity. Was expecting more sourness after the nose profile; but this was still highly complex and spot on to the style. Extremely well balanced. Label states only Brett was used for the wild yeast, so most of the sourness is likely coming from the cherry juice. A highly enjoyable offering, regardless.

Pours amber, relatively clear. Aroma is fruity and a bit smoky. Cherries soaked in liquor. On steroids. Tastes amazing. Sweet and full of cherries, has some tartness to it but also the sweetness to balance it out. Flavourful and fully enjoyable. Great one, thanks Gregg, very happy I could try this.

Hazy mahogany brown color. Mildly tart, cherries lollipops, oak, caramel sweet and tart nose. Surprisingly light body slightly tart with tons of cherry lollipops, sweeter than an oude burn, but sooo well made with light body. Excellent

12oz bottle thanks to Toby. Pours out an amber color topped with a small head. Nose is sweet cherries some raspberry tartness wood and some funk. Taste is more of the sweet cherries jam and a nice musty tartness.

Bottle receiver as extra in trade. Thank you umich03jm! Pours hazy reddish brown with a rather small reddish beige head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet, sour and fruity with dark bread, caramel, lemon, cherry juice, hay, soil, moist wood, barnyard, lemon zest and hints of balsamic vinegar. Taste is sweet, slightly sour and fruity with dark bread, biscuits, lemon juice, cherry juice, moist wood, moist soil, hay, barnyard, leather, kumquats and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is round, tiny dry, tart, tiny boozy and medium to fu bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and sour with dark bread, caramel, butterscotch, lemon, cherries, moist soil, moist hay, moist wood, barnyard, kumquats and lemon zest. Really cool! Very balanced which I didn’t expect. Perfect sweetness, sourness and fruit juice mix. Yummy but no way it’s 12+% strong. --- Beer aliased from original tick of Olde Brune on 12 Feb 2015 at 22:22 - Score: 8. Original review text: Wow! Really balanced between the sweetness, sourness and fruit.

Cherry oud bruin bottle. Pours a dark amber with small white head. The aroma is cardboard, old sponge, yeast. Thin mouthfeel with jammy cherry, booze, yeast, very good.
