Always on the lookout for the next thing they can throw in a barrel, our brewers actually looked no further than their own backyard for this release – literally. Inspired by the berries they remember first eating from the trees in their yards; this Bourbon County release is full of the dark, spicy, and pleasantly sweet flavors of mulberries, marionberries, and boysenberries. This trio of fruit nicely rounds out the spice and heat of the rye whiskey barrels in which they were aged, resulting in a smooth, jammy stout perfect for sipping on your back porch.

2013 bottle from deep in my cellar. Oh, my! I was afraid I'd let this sit TOO long, but it's come out just fine! Black beer with ruby highlights, a thin ring of tan fizz. Smell is big on local wild berries, wafted on a note of rye whiskey. Also some interesting chocolate notes. Taste has a sweet berry overlay, more of that alcohol. A guilty pleasure is the sensation of cheap fruity wine, but all's good. And the bomber bottle means there's so much more to enjoy!

Bottle from BCBS horizontal. Black pour, small beige head. Aroma is berries, roasty malts, chocolate with bourbon notes. Blackberries lead the taste as well, the rest being the normal sweet, roasty, boozy BCBS base. Rye barrel lends many savory / spicy notes as well.

Bottle shared at Jimmy's farewell party. Pours a deep brown to black with a small brown head that lingers. Jammy blackberry aromas with dark chocolate and bourbon notes. So smooth on the palate with the berries, chocolate and bourbon all integrated so well.

650 ml bottle, bottled 20 Nov 13, shared by Sander, thanks! Black body, with a tiny, tan head. Aroma of whiskey, dark chocolate fudge, coffee, toffee, moderate sweet berries, some spices, some tobacco. Taste has much more berries, otherwise quite similar. Full, oily mouthfeel, with an average carbonation. Finishes medium sweet, moderate roasty, a bit wooden, a bit boozy, with berries, cocoa powder, moderate whiskey, some coffee. Tasty. The berries work very well, much more prominent in the taste. More on the sweet side, while very well balanced. Lovely, smooth dessert beer. Score: 8 / 4 / 9 / 4 / 17

Old rating from a bottle dated 11/20/2013, shared by badnewsbeers. Murky prune-black body with reddish highlights and a thin light brown head. Murky, roasty nose with coffee, prune, and swirls of chocolate roast and berries. Huge, inky body with ample marshmallowy roast and berries, lending a persistent fruity character to the beer. Yum.
